The Star Wars Sourcebook is a sourcebook written by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith. It was first published in October 1987 by West End Games, and was the first Star Wars roleplaying-game sourcebook ever published. It was revised for the Second Edition by Bill Smith and Peter M. Schweighofer, and republished in June 1994.

The book covers information of various sorts regarding the Star Wars universe, including chapters on general spacecraft systems, starfighters, capital ships, space transports, droids, repulsorlift vehicles, Imperial ground assault vehicles, aliens, creatures, general equipment, lightsabers, stormtroopers, Rebel bases, Imperial garrisons, and the heroes and villains of the original trilogy of movies.

As the first Star Wars roleplaying-game reference, this book contains some information that has been contradicted by later materials.

On July 5, 2018, Fantasy Flight Games re-released The Star Wars Sourcebook alongside Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game as part of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game 30th Anniversary Edition.

Opening crawl

The Star Wars Sourcebook
A great Rebellion burns across the vast
reaches of space. It is a Rebellion against
tyranny, against oppression, against the evil
monster which the Empire has become.

In the Rebellion, a pitifully-few valiant men,
women and aliens, known as the Alliance, wage
a desperate war against the overwhelming armies
and ships of the Emperor, ruler of a thousand-
thousand worlds. Outnumbered and outgunned, the
Rebels fight on, with only their great courage - and
the mystical power known as the Force - offering even
the slimmest chance of victory.

This is the galaxy of the Rebellion. It is a galaxy of
wondrous aliens, bizarre monsters, strange Droids,
powerful weapons, great heroes, and terrible villians. It is
a galaxy of fantastic worlds, magical devices, vast fleets,
awesome machinery, terrible conflict, and unending hope.
