A collision detector, also known as a collision alarm, collision avoidance system, or collision monitor,[2] was a type of safety device[1] and sensor hardwired into a starship[2] or vehicle to alert the operator of an imminent impact. The devices were common in most vehicles; though they were banned from being incorporated into Podracers in many race series. Frowned upon by veteran racers, they were often times referred to derisively as "electronic nannies."[1] They were also used in Adumari starfighters.
