A Probe-Mate hyperspace pod
A hyperdrive pod, also known as a hyperspace pod was a droid-controlled hyperdrive-equipped pod that delivered probe droids to their destinations.[1]
Once the pod exited hyperspace, it would crash onto a planet's surface, breaking apart and allowing the droid to exit the pod and begin its assigned mission.
The Viper probe droid utilized two models, both developed by Arakyd Industries; the Predator I,[1] and the Probe-Mate hyperspace pod.[2]
The Spelunker probe droid used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems were deployed by hyperdrive pods in their travels.
The Seeker Transport hyperdrive pod was used to transport the AS-M12-series messenger droid to its destination.[3]
Behind the scenes
The model for the hyperdrive pod used on-screen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back were created by kitbashing the models of five Sd. Kfz. 232s.[4]
