- "That can't be! My audio receptors must be malfunctioning!"
- ―C-3PO
Audio sensors,[3] also known as auditory sensors,[1] auditory sensor recorders,[4] audio receptors,[2] or sound sensors,[5] were a type of sensor. They were detection devices that absorbed outside stimuli and fed that data to a droid's main processor to be interpreted. Audio sensors were among the most common sensors installed in droids. Generally, they could detect sounds within the normal range of Human hearing, although some droids had more enhanced sensors.[1] Audio sensors were colloquially referred to as audio pickups or auditory pickups.[4]
Audio sensors could be mounted externally on starships, to relay sound from outside the ship so it could be heard by someone inside it.[6]
