Arc welders were tools carried by astromech droids, such as the R2 and R5-series as part of their standard equipment.[1] Their main purpose was for repairing things, such as bulkheads, but creative droids could improvise to employ them for various other purposes. R2-D2 used an arc welder to release Leia Organa from her shackles on Jabba's Sail Barge in 4 ABY.
