Grasper arms were appendages that allowed droids that did not possess limbs to manipulate objects such as computer keypads and tools. They were commonly found on astromechs and power droids and were usually retractable, folding up into compartments within the droid's body.[1] There were exceptions to this, such as the grasper arms used on the P2-series and the FX-series medical assistant.[2]
Grasper arms came in two main versions; one for fine work, and another for heavy lifting. The arms were extendable with a range of around half a meter[1] although some droids such as the R2-series had arms that could reach up to 0.85 meters.[2] Servo-boosted mechanisms were built into the arm's joints and "fingers." The grasper arms came in a number of varieties, tipped with either claws, pincers, or hands with a varying number of fingers.[1]
