- "I did hear that a ship had 'trouble' on the way here, but there isn't much information from the Port Authority. I think that there's a good reason to worry."
- ―Selan Ellison
Port Authorities were government institutions that supervised spaceport operations. For a nominal fee, a Port Authority could provide precise hyperspace jump coordinates to freighters traveling along established hyperlanes. The Authority could also provide jump coordinates to more remote destinations if the customer provided accurate navigational data, or if the Authority had to plot the course themselves they would charge an expensive surcharge.[2] During the Galactic Civil War, Port Authorities were under the authority of the Imperial Transit Authority.[1]
Examples of Port Authorities included the Coruscant Port Authority,[3] the Corellian Port Authority,[1] the Foless Spaceport Authority,[4] the Manaan Port Authority.[5] the Teguta Lusat Port Authority,[6] the Tasariq Port Authority,[7] the Elrooden Starport Port Authority,[8] the Charbi Port Authority,[9] and the Bestine Port Authority.[10]
