"The Aleena don't seem to miss their old neighbors all that much, but they do miss the twinklin' fireflies that used to swarm up from the caverns at night, back before the Great Seal was put in place. This dazzlin' drink the Aleena created as a tribute to those luminous creatures seems like the next best thing."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

The Aleen Firefly was a cloudy, light-green beverage filled with red, green, and blue cubes created by the Aleena species of the Mid Rim planet Aleen. It was made as a tribute to the fireflies found in the Aleen Underworld which had previously flown to the surface where the Aleen lived prior to the placement of the Great Seal, a barrier between the surface world of the Aleen and the subterranean world of their Kindalo neighbors.[1]

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs visited Aleen during a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY[2] and then included a recipe for Aleen Firefly, which he considered dazzling, in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Aleen Firefly was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the beverage makes use of chilled pineapple juice and chilled lemon lime soda. The gelatinous cubes make use of strawberry gelatin, raspberry gelatin, lime gelatin, and warm water.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
