Purlah Soup

Purlah Soup was a type of soup made from swamp lentils that dated back to the Feast of Prosperity on the Hutt Space moon Nar Shaddaa. It was served in bowls to spectators at the moon's gladiatorial Grakkus Arena where they ate it while cheering on the combatants.^[1]

After taking a tour of Hutt Space booked by the Hutts that was made as part of a larger culinary tour of the galaxy^[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,^[2] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published^[1] in 35 ABY.^[2] By the time of its publishing, the Feast of Prosperity, and therefore the soup, was considered ancient.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Purlah Soup was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photographs by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the soup makes use of olive oil, a diced medium yellow onion, a diced yellow bell pepper, diced medium carrots, diced medium celery stalks, minced garlic cloves, dried basil, cumin, oregano, paprika, granulated sugar, thyme, dry green lentils, stewed tomatoes, vegetable broth, kosher salt, black pepper, and fresh basil.^[1]

In the Star Wars Legends, swamp lentil soup was introduced as part of the Feast of Prosperity event in Patch 6.1.4 of the Onslaught expansion of BioWare's massively-multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars: The Old Republic,^[3] which was added to the game on October 20, 2020.^[4]
