- "But any good scavenger knows how to take somethin' old and turn it into somethin' excitin' and new. For instance, folks on Jakku make this strange quick-risin' bread outta polystarch powder. (I found it so fascinatin' that I included it in my first batch of recipes.) Now, the locals have started mixin' extra ingredients into their portions, givin' their little loaves a variety of different flavors. I tried a bunch of 'em, and this rich dessert version managed to rise above the rest in no time flat."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Chocolate Portion Bread was a rich, vegetarian dessert bread made from portion bread with additional ingredients added. The brown bread filling was served in a bowl with a darker brown topping over it and a green garnish sprinkled on top. The dish was created by the inhabitants of the desert planet Jakku after they began making variants of portion bread by mixing in extra ingredients to create a variety of different flavors.[1]
The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs tried many of the portion bread variants on Jakku during a culinary tour he took of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY[2] and selected Chocolate Portion Bread as his favorite. He then included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes
Chocolate Portion Bread was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the bread makes use of vegetable oil, cake flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, cinnamon, kosher salt, coconut milk, vanilla extract, mini chocolate chips, and a dusting of matcha powder.[1]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
