- "I'm told they used to be made with a native species of crustacean, but now the recipes have been cleverly adapted to make 'em completely plant-based instead."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Champala Chips were a small crispy dish invented by the Chagrians of the planet Champala. Created in response to poor fishing conditions, the dish used to be made from a crustacean native to the world, but the recipes were later changed to be plant-based and came to be offered in most dockside pubs on Champala. During a culinary tour of the galaxy he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[2] Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs tried the chips while on Champala. He was unable to tell that it was plant-based, and in his[1] 35 ABY[2] cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, he praised the "seaworthy flavors" he found in each bite of the dish.[1]
Behind the scenes
Champala Chips were introduced in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Marc Sumerak and Jenn Fujikawa. The out-of-universe ingredients for the recipe are vegetable oil, rice paper, furikake, paprika, and kosher salt.[1]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
