Aldera Meatpie

Aldera Meatpies were a type of savory meatpie from the Core Worlds planet Alderaan. A student of the University of Alderaan in the planet's capital city, Aldera, learned to make the pies while studying and later served them while working as a chef on^[1] the planet^[2] Tepasi after Alderaan was destroyed by the Galactic Empire^[1] in 0 BBY.^[3] The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs ordered an Aldera Meatpie from the former student on Tepasi during the culinary tour of the galaxy that he made^[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.^[4]

Having not realized that the pie originated on Alderaan when he ordered it, Tuggs learned its origins from the chef and later included it as an Alderaanian recipe in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook,^[1] which was published in 35 ABY.^[4] In the book, he described the pies as magnificent and claimed that although they could not bring Alderaan back, the pies could send the eater back there for a few seconds.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Aldera Meatpies were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the pies makes use of vegetable oil, diced yellow onions, a minced garlic clove, tomato paste, ground beef, pork chorizo, chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, pre-made pie dough, and a large egg.^[1]
