- "My favorite meal had to be this fried rice dish, with a galaxy-spannin' assortment of fruit, veg, and spices. It's named after Ord Mantell's sun, the star called Bright Jewel. Seems about right to me, as this little bowl ended up bein' one of the brightest spots on my entire galactic tour."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Bright Jewel Rice was a vegetarian fried brown rice dish that was made with a variety of red and green fruits, vegetable, and exotic spices from across the galaxy. The dish was a combination of flavors unique to the culturally diverse Mid Rim planet Ord Mantell and was named for the world's star, Bright Jewel.[1]
During the culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[2] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs ate Bright Jewel Rice while in Worlport, the capital of Ord Mantell. The dish was Tuggs' favorite among those that he tried in the city and was one of the highlights of his entire tour. He included a recipe for Bright Jewel Rice in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes
Bright Jewel Rice was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the rice makes use of vegetable oil, diced onion, diced red pepper, minced garlic cloves, minced fresh ginger, leftover cooked rice, beaten eggs, oyster sauce, tamari, sesame oil, white pepper, crushed pineapple, green peas, and green onions.[1]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
