"When these militant monks weren't fightin' for the people, they were feedin' 'em. They'd wander around the Holy City passin' out simple scones with a sugary coatin' that shimmered like kyber dust. Those things were almost good enough to make me a believer! No one's left on Jedha to say if I got the recipe right, so I'll just have to hope the Force is with me on this one."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Kyber Scones were a type of simple, brown scone with a sugary blue coating that shimmered like the dust of kyber crystals. The scones were handed out to residents of Jedha City on the moon Jedha by the Guardians of the Whills, militant monks who protected the people of the city and the moon's kyber crystals. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs at some point tried the scones and enjoyed them.[1]

Jedha City was destroyed by the Galactic Empire in 1 BBY,[2] but after taking a culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] Tuggs included a recipe for the scones in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3] Tuggs created his own recipe for the dish as there was no one left on Jedha to share the original or verify the Artiodac's version.[1]

Behind the scenes

Kyber Scones were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the scones makes use of all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, kosher salt, cold and unsalted butter, softened cream cheese, a large egg, buttermilk, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. The frosting makes use of confectioners' sugar, whole milk, almond extract, more vanilla extract, and decorative blue sugar sprinkles.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
