Nal Hutta Swamp Stew was a viscous green stew created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs while he was visiting the planet Nal Hutta as an honored guest of the Hutts between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. Tuggs made the dish from swamp plants and herbs simmered in a kettle and served it to the Hutts, who ate their portions and licked the pot clean. The chef later included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, in 35 ABY.

Nal Hutta Swamp Stew was a viscous green stew made from strange plants and herbs from the swamps of the planet Nal Hutta, with the final dish resembling the swamps but smelling far more pleasant.[1]

History

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs created Nal Hutta Swamp Stew while visiting Nal Hutta, homeworld of the Hutt species, during a tour of Hutt Space as an honored guest booked by the Hutts that he made as part of a larger culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.[2] Tuggs gathered the components for the stew in Nal Hutta's swamps while looking for interesting ingredients that he intended to hold on to; however, he could not resist simmering them in a kettle instead to see what happened.[1]

He served the resulting dish to his Hutt benefactors, who finished their portions and then demanded that the pot be brought to them so that they could lick it clean. Tuggs then included the recipe for the stew in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[2] In the book, Tuggs admitted that he would have licked the pot of stew clean himself had the Hutts not done so first.[1]

Behind the scenes

Nal Hutta Swamp Stew was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the dish makes use of olive oil, pork shoulder, a cubed large onion, minced garlic cloves, roasted green chilies, peeled and cubed russet potatoes, beef broth, kosher salt, black pepper, and chopped cilantro.[1]
