- "This cold roasted salad is said to be a favorite of the Hynestian royal family, but the common folk have their own version as well. I fell in love with these bite-sized tubers at the Frozen Kova, which is, as far as I can tell, the only cantina on the planet."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook
Hynestia Spheres was a type of vegetarian salad served cold and made up of roasted and seasoned spherical brown tubers. It originated on Hynestia Prime, an ice planet in the Colonies where it was difficult to grow any crops other than root vegetables like the tubers. The dish was supposedly a favorite of the world's royal family, but versions were also served among the common folk of Hynestia.[1]
The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs fell in love with Hynestia Spheres after being served them alongside a glass of purple glandis flower juice at the Frozen Kova cantina on Hynestia during a culinary tour he took of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. In 35 ABY,[2] Tuggs included a recipe for the salad in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, in which he claimed the bite-sized tubers were one of the few things worth braving the freezing conditions of Hynestia for.[1]
Behind the scenes
Hynestia Spheres was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the salad makes use of mini multi-colored potatoes, olive oil, sliced shallots, minced garlic cloves, kosher salt, basil, paprika, parsley, and black pepper, with a dressing made of more olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, more kosher salt, and more black pepper.[1]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
