Blood was a liquid substance present in most sentient beings, though not all species had the same color of blood. Humans,[2] Togorians,[3] Aqualish,[4] and Iktotchi,[5] for example, had red blood; while Rodians,[6] Duros,[7] Trandoshans,[8] Lokori,[9] and some Pykes had green blood.[10] Other Pykes instead possessed yellow blood[11] as did Geonosians.[12] Kiffar had scarlet blood,[13] Devaronians had black blood[14] and Anzellans had purple blood.[15]

By testing a sample of someone's blood, it was possible to get a midi-chlorian count and determine how sensitive one was to the Force.[16] Human blood was said to have a characteristic metallic taste.[17] Bloodburn was a rare blood disease that affected some starship pilots.[18] The emotions of sentient beings of flesh and blood were driven by chemicals in their bloodstream. However, stone-based beings who had no blood, such as the Kakran, processed information differently and did not experience strong emotions, such as fear.[19] Karabbac blood was used by Kaleesh warriors[20] to smear[21] their fearsome masks as war paint[20] before battle.[21]
