Plot summary
- "Why are you doing this? Why?!"
"Sinsara."
"What—? What did you say?" - ―Qui-Gon Jinn and Corlis Rath
On Mina-Rau Jedi Masters Aayla Secura, Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu meet with Magistrate Khediva who takes them to the body of Master Fondar Etzis. Khediva tells the Jedi that Etzis had been a powerful assistant in driving away bandits that had been stealing crops. However, they believe that his death was not responsible by the Quillian bandits due to his ability to drive them away. Master Qui-Gon senses a darkness around the body, but Secura and Windu don't. Trusting his instincts, Qui-Gon believes that Master Etzis was murdered. The Jedi continue the investigation in the ship of Master Etzis, where Qui-Gon runs a blood sample he took from the recently deceased. He discovers that he was poisoned by a violent toxin, resulting in his death.
Looking into the ship's logs, they discover that Etzis is the only person to access the ship since his departure from Coruscant, they reach the conclusion that his poisoning was done outside. Meeting back with Magistrate Khediva, they discuss the possibility that the murderer is a resident of Mina-Rau acting on the behalf of the bandits. Khediva accepts it as a possibility, but finds it hard for the simple farmers to be capable of murder. With the mystery surrounding Master Etzis's death becoming no closer to being solved, Aayla Secura suggests that his death could have been an accident which doesn't affect the indigenous population of Mina-Rau.
Walking through the crop fields, Master Qui-Gon senses danger, but again, the others do not. Suddenly, Secura and Windu are hit, causing them to collapse. From the crops, Corlis Rath appears and begins attacking Qui-Gon Jinn. The duel takes them aboard one of the Combines, while Qui-Gon attempts to get answers from the assassin. While asking Rath why he is trying to kill him, Qui-Gon strikes the attacker, exposing his eyes. In response, he speaks one word, the planet Sinsara. Qui-Gon freezes in place, allowing for Rath to stab the Master Jedi. Leaving him to die, Qui-Gon dwells on Sinsara.
Development
In the issue, Jedi Knight Aayla Secura at one point speaks in the Twi'leki language, as was confirmed by writer Marc Guggenheim.[4] The form of Twi'leki used in the issue can be traced back to the Infinite Empire online forums as a fanon version of the Twi'leki language, in which some words were pulled from Star Wars Legends material while others were totally developed by fans.[5]
