Plot summary
Jedi Master Vildar Mac, Padawan Matthea Cathely, and the thief Tey Sirrek are inside the Temple of the Kyber on Jedha, surrounded by a squad of the Guardians of The Whills, led by captain Oklane Viss. Mac draws his lightsaber, suspicious as to why the Guardians have their lightbows drawn, and Viss assures him that they have done so due to their distrust of Sirrek, who they call a traitor. Sirrek leaves indignantly, remembering his past as a Guardian himself. Having witnessed a young Cragmoloid named Flim pickpocket from pilgrims outside of the Temple, he chased him down until a flashbang attack from the droid SK-0T, who at this point belonged to the child.
Back in the present, Mac and Cathley inform Temple Archivists Zumeg and Feric Oranalli of the theft of one of their artifacts, the two assume that Sirrek must have stolen them. Mac and Cathley defend him, as he was investigating the theft himself, and seemed genuinely upset at the Sister V’Kara’s murder. Viss complains that those around Sirrek usually end up dead.
In the past, Sirrek chases after Flim again, before running into criminal Anst Wozo, who has been dispatching Flim and other street children throughout Jedha in order to take the spoils of their pickpocketing for himself. Later, SK-0T frantically tracks Sirrek down and leads him to the street children’s hideout, where Sirrek finds Flim dead and the rest of the children brutally beaten. Captain Viss orders Sirrek not to get involved, but he abandons the Guardians and tracks Wozo down to kill him.
In the present, Sirrek sneaks back into the Temple through a window, hoping to investigate the archives and learn more about the theft. He arrives to see Oranalli, Zumeg, Mac, and Cathley have already arrived. Sirrek spots an explosive device on the ground and picks it up right as he is spotted by Mac. Mac force throws the bomb as far away as he can, and it explodes.
