Plot summary
End of the hunt
On the planet Milvayne, Chelli Lona Aphra informs the droid Triple-Zero that by walking away, he has activated bombs that will kill them both. The return of his companion, BT-1, convinces Triple-Zero to rejoin Aphra. To prove that he isn't secretly allied with her, BT-1 shoots Aphra with a tranquilizer dart, a dramatic turn that delights the audience watching the public broadcast of their ordeal.
As Triple-Zero carries the weakened Aphra, they are intercepted by Vulaada Klam, who offers them a ride aboard her pet Qaberworm Gurtyl. She apologizes for a previous betrayal, explaining that she was desperate for food. They proceed but find their destination empty, save for a note from Professor Prexo stating he is away on a work trip. Suddenly, they are ambushed by a platoon of stormtroopers. The undead lawman Tam Posla appears and attacks the troopers, but during the ensuing chaos, his blaster misfires toward Klam.
Aphra's apotheosis
From Coruscant, Imperial Minister Pitina Mar-Mas Voor records a secret log, reflecting on how these "outlaws" have destabilized an entire planet. She notes that the Galactic Empire's attempt to control the narrative failed, forcing them to use overwhelming force. However, she is fascinated by the broadcast's climax. Aphra instinctively shields Klam, taking the full force of the blaster shot herself. Voor remarks on the irony: a notoriously selfish person commits a selfless, heroic act. This sacrifice transforms Aphra into a martyr, inciting riots across Milvayne and undermining Imperial rule
Believing she is dying, Aphra is told by Triple-Zero that the bombs will detonate in twenty seconds anyway. However, the bounty hunters Winloss and Nokk have already located Professor Prexo, the only person capable of tracing the broadcast signal. They track down and apprehend Cornelius Evazan and his Aqualish accomplice Ponda Baba. Following Nokk's orders, Prexo deactivates the broadcast and the bombs. Realizing the threat is gone, Triple-Zero abandons the critically injured Aphra. As he and BT-1 walk away, a grateful Klam rushes to Aphra's side.
Sparks of uprising
Minister Voor concludes her log, stating that Milvayne will now be subjected to martial law. She muses that whether Aphra is alive or dead, the only pertinent question is how she can be most useful to the Empire. The scene ends with Minister Voor entering a throne room, past the Emperor's Royal Guard, to report directly to Emperor Palpatine. While Palpatine muses about relying upon lesser souls and trust, Klam tends to the wounded Aphra while Milvayne descends into chaos and anarchy.
