Plot summary
- "These wounds…they appear to be consistent with the energy-edged blades I've seem Rath use."
"He knew we were trying to learn more about him."
"Yes…he's always one step ahead. And the nature of his vendetta against me remains unclear. After all…I've never even met him before. I don't know why he's seeking vengeance." - ―Qui-Gon Jinn and Tensu Run
On the moon of K'shar, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Tensu Run are undercover to meet with an informant on the mysterious assassin, Corlis Rath. Qui-Gon discusses how he feels about his fate at the hands of Corlis Rath, he trusts that Obi-Wan Kenobi's vision is accurate and in the Force, but also believes in himself and doesn't think he will die at the hands of someone he doesn't know. The two Jedi begin wandering the streets to meet with the informant, Qui-Gon finds it ironic to find such a brutal and disgusting place a safe environment to meet with Jedi. He also suggests that you would have to be the most vicious of criminals to survive on K'Shar. Turning the corner, they are greeted by a group of criminals, asking for them to hand over all their credits. Realising that they are being robbed, Qui-Gon and Tensu reveal themselves to be Jedi, startling the robbers. However, the desire for credits changes, instead, the Rodian criminal declares that they would take their lightsabers instead. The Jedi draw their weapons as the criminals fire at them, running out of time to meet the informant, Qui-Gon suggests to Tensu to settle the conflict fast. He uses a mind trick to make the criminals feel tired, they stop fighting and fall asleep. Qui-Gon admires the initiative Tensu showed by experimenting with a new Jedi technique, but they swiftly move on, falling behind schedule. The two Jedi discover that their informant, Aquint Garva, has been murdered. The two Jedi notice that Garva has wounds similar to the weapons that Rath uses. Aboard Corlis Rath's starship, the assassin remembers his encounter with a young Qui-Gon and his master, Dooku. The assassin looks down at the wound across his chest, supposedly caused by the blade of Qui-Gon Jinn's lightsaber.
