Plot summary
Enter monopod racing
Nash Durango, Kai Brightstar, Nubs and Lys Solay watch monopod racers practice from atop a rope bridge. Durango commentates the practice lap, taking an interest in the racer Wiston Freng. Durango says that Freng inspired her interest in the sport. Following the practice, Durango takes her friends to the course's Pit Row, where the pilots have to stop during the race for refueling and repairs. There, she explains to the Jedi Initiates the fundamentals of the sport while several pit droids work on monopods and an engineering droid works on a console.
Durango explains that it is the job of engineering droids to keep things running smoothly during the race. She also details that a monopod race consists of three laps. She explains that the Monopod Circuit tours across the galaxy but that today is the first time they have come to Tenoo, much to her excitement. The Pantoran Wiston Freng climbs out of his monopod and removes his helmet, catching Durango's attention. Shortly later, a Dug racer, Freng's rival Jaj Omie, emerges from his monopod and runs into a pair of pit droids. He frustratedly walks through Durango and her friends, with Durango describing him as a notorious "rule breaker."
Solay suggests that they should greet Freng but Durango is too starstruck by her hero. Brightstar introduces himself, Solay, and Nubs to Freng. Brightstar then introduces Durango as an avid monopod racing fan. Freng says he is pleased to meet Durango, whom Brightstar describes as the fastest racer on Tenoo. When Durango tries to be modest, Freng tells her about his "rags to riches" story and invites her to help make some last minute repairs.
Inspecting Freng's monopod, Durango thinks that his vehicle needs a new pressure regulator. Meanwhile, Omie stalks Freng's engineering droid JK-46 and deactivates it from behind. He then dumps the droid inside a metal chest. Following the repairs, Freng notices that JK-46 is missing. Just then, the Toong announcer orders the pilots to climb onto their monopods. Durango panics about Freng being unable to race without an engineer. Freng invites Durango to serve as a substitute engineer, since she has skills as both a mechanic and a pilot.
Freng's engineer
Durango is initially reluctant to accept the offer until Freng warns that he will forfeit the race without an engineer. The announcer notices Durango and expresses surprise that Freng is using a human child as his engineer. Durango waves to her mothers Ceeli and Kryys Durango. Nash is slightly overwhelmed by the numerous controls, but Freng reassures her that they only need to stay in front. The monopods charge ahead at the announcer's signal, startling Durango.
During the race, Freng has Durango fix the misaligned stabilizer. Meanwhile, racers start ramming into one another, taking an Ishi Tib out of the race. The monopods fly through the Tenoo Tunnel and soar above the roots of a giant Tenoo tree. Freng takes the lead, with Omie second place. Together, Freng and Durango complete the first lap of the three-lap race. The Jedi younglings cheer from Pit Row.
Shortly later, Omie speeds through the pit row, disabling both of Freng's pit droids. Needing a new pit crew, Durango tasks her droid RJ-83 with guiding her Jedi friends. During the second lap, Freng's monopod's intake begins breaking down after Omie launches mud into it. Durango panics, but Freng reassures her that he believes in her, telling her not to give up and that she belongs to be there. After pressing several buttons, Durango manages to clear the intake.
Teamwork and victory
Needing repairs after the second lap, Freng pilots his monopod to Pit Row where RJ-83 guides the Jedi younglings. Brightstar uses a wrench to fix bolts while Solay refuels the monopod. Nubs gives the surface a wipe. During the third lap, Freng catches up with two other monopods, which are being driven by an Aleena and a Mirialan. They attempt to sandwich him but he brakes suddenly, causing the two rival monopods to collide with each other and crash. Durango avoids getting hit with debris but the monopod's stabilizer fin is damaged by falling debris. Omie races ahead.
As Freng's monopod navigates through the Tenoo Tunnel, Freng tasks Durango with fixing the fin. Alas, Durango's arms are too short to reach the fin. Freng convinces her to swap seats mid-race, leaving Durango to pilot the monopod while he fixes the stabilizer. Durango flies the monopod through the forest canopy. Freng and Durango catch up with Omie's monopod near the final stretch of the race. The Dug attempts to ram his monopod into the other, but Durango manages to swerve, causing the Dug's monopod to hit a barrier and crash.
The Toong announces Durango as the winner. Ceeli and Kryys cheer for their daughter. Omie rages in Huttese and is splattered by oil from his damaged monopod. Following the race, the Jedi younglings and the others gather around Durango and Freng. Out of gratitude, Freng gifts Durango his crash helmet as a reminder that she belongs here. She thanks him before the Toong announcer hands the two the trophy for winning the Tenoo Grand Tour.
