Plot summary

Two missions

The Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs gather in the Tenoo Jedi Temple's training field for mission briefing with Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna. Master Zia explains that she actually has two missions for them. Since they need to be done quickly, they will have to split into teams of two. Brightstar and Nubs express their eagerness for the missions. The first mission involves helping the rancher Roon, who lives on a nearby moon, to retrieve her missing baby banthas before their nightly feeding. The second mission involves helping the adventurer droid 0G-LC to pick up the journal of the Jedi explorer Seba from a nearby jungle moon before a big storm hits.

Brightstar offers to help OG-LC retrieve Seba's mission while Solay helps Roon. Brightstar invites Nubs to come with him. Solay says she will get a ride from Nash Durango in the Crimson Firehawk and hopes to try out her bantha song, explaining that music helps calm them down. Solay begins singing her bantha song. Master Zia appreciates their enthusiasm but warns the Jedi to be prepared for any mission, not just their personal interests. She then passes the Jedi younglings datapads containing their mission coordinates.

The wrong destinations

Brightstar and Nubs travel in Jedi Vectors to a desert moon. Brightstar recognizes several banthas outside Roon's ranch and realize that they are at the wrong destination. Meanwhile, Solay and Durango travel in the Crimson Firehawk to the jungle moon. Brightstar contacts Solay and Durango via holoprojector. The Jedi younglings and Durango realize that their missions have gotten split up. When Durango suggests a swap, Brightstar says that they don't have enough time for that since the banthas need to be found before dinner time and the journal before the storm hits.

Solay and Brightstar decide to stick with their missions before the signals cut off. When Durango asks if the others will be fine, Solay reassures her friend that they have got this under control. Durango leads the way to finding the journal and RJ-83 follows along. Brightstar and Nubs soon encounter Roon, who is four-eyed alien with green skin. She explains that their three youngest banthas have gotten lost from the herd and that they could be anywhere on the moon, which is a giant ranch. Roon gives them two speeder bike that are attached to trailers. Brightstar promises they will be back for dinner time.

Improvising

While travelling through the desert, Brightstar crashes his speeder into a rock, damaging one of its cables. Brightstar wishes Solay and Durango were here to help with the banthas and speeder respectively. He and Nubs get to work. Meanwhile, Solay along with Durango and RJ-83 approach a ruined stony settlement, which they believe was the camp of the Jedi explorer. Solay admits she does not know a lot about Jedi history while Durango searches through the crates. She is trapped by a squishy plant which wraps its vines around her. RJ-83 gets stuck while trying to free her. Solay wishes Nubs was here before deciding to think like Nubs.

Meanwhile, Brightstar and Nubs manage to repair Brightstar's damaged speeder and continue their search for the banthas. Brightstar says they need to think like how Solay would in the same situation. Nubs suggests they slow down and breath deeply, which Brightstar agrees. The two stop their vehicles and meditate in the Force. They sense the various insects and rodents around them. The two Jedi hear banthas granting and find them under an arch in a canyon. They manage to load two of the banthas onto the trailer units but one of them runs away.

Elsewhere on the jungle moon, Solay notices that the squishy plant's soil is very dry and waters it, causing the plant to release both Durango and RJ-83. Durango is relieved to discover that the plant was just thirsty and asks how Solay solved the puzzle. Solay observes that Nubs always observes a plant to check what it needs. Just then, they hear the roar of thunder. Durango reminds Solay about their mission. Solay admits she is stuck but Durango reassures her friend that Brightstar always does something even though it may be wrong. Solay realizes that they need to make a choice and deduces that the journal has been buried. The three dig several holes and find the journal hidden within a wooden crate.

Problem solving

Meanwhile, Brightstar and Nubs pursue the last remaining bantha, who leads them on a chase. Brightstar wishes they had Solay around. Just then, Brightstar's speeder breaks down due to their patchy repair job. Solay, Durango and RJ-83 contact them via holoprojector with news that they have found the journal. Durango warns them about the storm. When Brightstar asks how they found the journal, Solay explains that they made a choice and stuck with it before the connection cuts. Brightstar and Nubs discuss what Solay would do. Nubs comes up with the idea of using Solay's bantha song.

While Brightstar and Nubs sing the song, Nubs pulls a blade of a grassy plant. The bantha approaches them as Brightstar repeats the lyrics of the song. Nubs feeds the bantha, which feeds him. The two Jedi bring the three banthas back to a grateful Roon, who expresses relief. The banthas rejoin their herd.

Back at the Tenoo Jedi temple, Solay returns with Seba's journal and is greeted by Master Zia. She is also joined by Brightstar and Nubs, who have returned from their successful mission. Zanna congratulates the Jedi younglings for completing their mission despite the mix-up. When Brightstar and Solay asks if she got their missions mixed up on purpose, Zanna confirms that this is the case. Nubs expresses surprise. Zanna says that the three younglings are good at different things but that they are also good at learning from each other. Durango asks the Jedi younglings for help in removing plant goo from her droid RJ-83, which they agree to help.
