Plot summary
The flying lesson
Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, Nubs and their fellow Jedi Initiates travel to the planet Kondoraan, which is home to giant Broadleaf trees that tower the Tenoo trees. After landing on a floating platform, they are greeted by a Nautolan man who is sky skimming aboard his sky skimming board. Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna explains that the people of Kondoraan use giant leaves to travel around. Zia explains that part of becoming a Jedi is learning about different cultures, which is the topic for today's lesson. Solay and Nubs express excitement.
After the Nautolan lands, Zia introduces their guide as Rix Tegano, who welcomes the Jedi younglings. He explains that sky skimming boards are powered by repulsors and that their sails are made from the leaves of giant broadleaf trees. The younglings are eager to try the boards but Tegano says he has to introduce them to the basics. After issuing each of the younglings with boards, he gets them to practice with the "eagle" and "cloud" positions. Brightstar is impatient and wants to do some sky skimming.
Tegano reminds the younglings that they need to use the sails and work with the wind in order to fly the sky skimming boards. He also emphasizes the importance of patience. Several fish-like creatures known as chiffons also fly near the platform. Tegano explains that the chiffons visit the platform every year and that they also rely on the wind to fly. He says that some people also get to fly them. When a dark-skinned human female youngling asks when they will get to fly for real, Tegano tells them to get ready for their first flight exercise.
Blown off course
As the younglings board their sky skimming boards, Tegano reminds them to ride with the wind. Brightstar and his friends fly on their boards through the crowds. Brightstar and Solay are enjoying their first flight while Nubs is a little bit nervous. Solay and Brightstar decide to follow several chiffons and convince a reluctant Nubs to follow. However, they find themselves flying against the wind, which damages the "wings" on their boards. The three younglings land safely in the desert but their "wings" are torn, leaving them unable to fly back to the floating platform.
Nubs suggests finding new leaves but Brightstar doesn't see leaves in the desert. After seeing a flight of chiffons, Solay thinks that they should follow the fish-like creatures in order to find their way back to the platform. Brightstar and Nubs agree. After folding their sky skimming boards' wings, they skate across the desert. Near dusk, the exhausted younglings reach the edge of a crater. On the other side, they find the platform on top of a giant broadleaf tree.
Trial by error
Speaking in Poobian, Nubs asks how they are going to cross the crater. Solay reasons that the crate is too steep to climb down and that they won't reach the tree before sunset. After three passing chiffons generate gusts of wind, Solay proposes riding the chiffons over the crate and up the platform. Brightstar and Nubs agrees. The three younglings jump on a second flight of chiffons. Though Solay manages to calm her steed, Brightstar and Nubs struggle to control theirs initially. Though they manage to gain control of the chiffons, they find that the wind is taking them in the wrong direction.
The panicking chiffon drop the younglings at the bottom of the crater. Brightstar and Solay realize they are trapped since the crater walls are too steep. Brightstar recalls that Tegano was telling them to "work with the wind." Solay says that they should have worked with the winds in order to find their way back to the platform. Brightstar agrees and says that they have been doing it the wrong way. Since their boards' wings are broken, Brightstar suggests using their Jedi cloaks.
Flight home
Brightstar uses the Force to levitate the three skimming boards gently down into the crater. Brightstar uses his cloak to replaced the torn patch on his sky skimming board. He decides to work with the wind and let the currents carry him. Brightstar flies with several chiffons and encourages his younglings to patch up the wings of their skimming boards. Following Brightstar's lead, the three younglings manage to fly back to the platform, where they rejoin Master Zanna and the other younglings.
Master Zanna is relieved but asks the three younglings what they did with their capes. Brightstar says it is a long story. When Mr Tegano arrives, Brightstar apologizes for not listening to his lesson about following the wind. He says that once they remembered his lesson, coming back was easy. Tegano is pleased they have learned their lesson. Brightstar that working with the wind requires a lot of patience. Tegano says they have learned enough about patience for one day and invites the younglings for dinner. Above, a flight of chiffons circle the platform.

- ↑ The second season of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures spans the dedication of the Starlight Beacon (which appears in the season one finale "The Prince and the Pirate") and the mission to Vrant Tarnum (which appears in "Yoda Rescue"), both of which are dated to 232 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines. The Season Two episode "The Great Gomgourd Quest" takes place one year after the episode "The Harvest Feast" placing that episode in 233 BBY. The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II additionally places "The Great Gomgourd Quest" one year after "Charhound Chase," also placing this in 233 BBY.
