Plot summary
Draiven gets lost
The episode opens with K-2PL leading her master Draiven Bosh on a track through the forests of Tenoo. Despite imagining himself as an adventurer and explorer, Bosh hates the outdoors and questions K-2PL about their choice of path. The droid responds that this path was necessary to avoid the Jedi children, whom he regards as an annoyance. Bosh chomps on a biscuit and throws away the wrapper. Bosh has ambitions of capturing a rare creature for display. However, he is tormented by a small fly and flees into the fog.
K-2PL is also surrounded by flies but drives them away. She finds herself separated from Bosh. Meanwhile, the Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs wade through the foggy forest. Brightstar questions Solay's choice of visiting the forest on a foggy day. Nubs is afraid and Brightstar tries to reassure his friend. The younglings are startled by a scream. They hear the voice of K-2PL, who is lost in the foggy forest. She encounters the Jedi younglings, who recognize her.
Helping K-2PL
Brightstar and Solay question where is her master Draiven Bosh. Solay adds that he better not be hunting for something to add to his collection. Nubs mutters something in Poobian. K-2PL says they were hiking, but they got separated in the forest. K-2PL begs for help. Huddling with her friends, Solay asks Brightstar and Nubs if they should help Bosh despite his shady reputation. Nubs speaks in Poobian. Brightstar reminds his friends of the Jedi belief in helping those in need but adds that they should be on the lookout for anything suspicious. The three agree to help K-2PL find Bosh.
K-2PL leads the way into the foggy forest. The younglings notice that the fog is getting thick. Nubs disappears down a hole but is quickly discovered by his friends and K-2PL, who comments about their sense of humor. She notices one of Bosh's ration pack wrappers. When Nubs and Brightstar ask what the wrapper is doing out here, K-2PL recalls that Bosh was eating a biscuit when they were looking for something. Solay probes into the matter, but K-2PL insists that she and her master were on a hike and claims that her master loves nature.
Solay asks K-2PL if she is hiding something, but K-2PL changes topic and insists on finding Bosh. However, she is unable to see through the fog. Brightstar convinces his fellow younglings to disperse the fog. The four discover more ration pack wrappers, prompting Solay to question his professed love for nature. The group reach Gripp's Landing, a cluster of rocks and pinnacles where the firehawks live. K-2PL feigns surprise, but Solay is suspicious about his motives and retrieves a pair of macrobinoculars.
The kidnapping attempt
She discovers Bosh haggling with a firehawk inside its nest. Solay asks K-2PL if her master was seeking to add a firehawk to his collection. K-2PL finally admits that Bosh was seeking to capture a firehawk, but begs for the Jedi to help him. Brightstar and Nubs are eager to help him, but Solay is reluctant to help the unscrupulous collector. Brightstar says they can both help him and stop his plan. Solay agrees to help but warns K-2PL that they would not let Bosh capture a firehawk. The four use grappling cables to abseil up the rocky pinnacle
Bosh attempts to trap a firehawk hatchling in a landing net, but the creature grabs its handle and tosses him into the air. The creature grabs him with his beak as Bosh demands to be let down. K-2PL soon arrives with the Jedi children, which upsets Bosh. K-2PL says that she had to do something when he was lost and that she went to get help. Bosh claims that he does not need help and claims that he has the situation under control. However, the firehawk hatchling is grabbing him with his beak. Solay convinces the bird to drop him.
Brightstar tells Bosh that he will not be adding anything to his collection today. However, Bosh is too proud to admit defeat and attempts to recapture the hatchling with his net. Their presence attracts the attention of the mother firehawk, who flies down to her nest. The Jedi younglings are mesmerized by the mother bird. Bosh is undaunted and makes a third attempt to capture the firehawk hatchling. The mother instead grabs him with her claws and carries him up a high pinnacle.
Saving Draiven from himself
The mother firehawk throws Bosh down from the air, and his harness catches on a branch growing from the pinnacle. Bosh is surrounded by more firehawks and begs for help. Brightstar and Nubs want to help him, but Solay disagrees. With the branch beginning to crack, Solay decides to honor her Jedi belief in helping those in need and enlists the hatchling's help. She rides on the back of the hatchling, and they fly towards Bosh. Reaching Bosh, Solay pleads with him to let go of his pack but he insists on collecting the firehawk hatchling. Just then, the branch breaks and Bosh falls to the ground.
Solay and the hatchling dive after him. The hatchling manages to catch him with his claws before he reaches the forest canopy. They ferry him to safety as Bosh thanks the young Jedi. Bosh, Solay and the hatchling are soon confronted by the mother firebird, who is angry with Bosh. Solay says she is upset with Bosh but convinces the mother that they would not allow Bosh to take her baby. Bosh admits defeat and promises not to capture the hatchling if released.
On the ground, Solay thanks the firehawk hatchling while Bosh thanks Solay, describing her as "quite magnificent." Solay tells Bosh to thank his servant droid K-2PL, who was worried about him and led them all the way here. K-2PL checks on her master, who reassures her that he is fine. Brightstar offers to escort them back to Bosh's ship. Bosh boasts of going to another adventure but is chased by a bug. Solay tells him not to run since that would attract the bugs, but Bosh doesn't listen. K-2PL follows her master. Solay, Brightstar, and Nubs race after them while the hatchling reunites with its flock.
