Imperial Remnant

The Imperial Remnant was a faction of the Old Galactic Empire that was active during the New Republic Era, composed of rogue members of the Empire who refused to follow the Galactic Concordance and operated from the fringes of the galaxy.[1]

Although the Empire was defeated, groups of Imperial forces remained active in the years after on planets in the Outer Rim Territories. These forces were known as the Imperial Remnant, but it was unknown if they were all independent groups or if they were a united force. they coordinate was not known.[2] By 9 ABY,[3] the Imperial Remnant was active on Morak, Nevarro, and Trask.[2]

The Imperial Remnant was located on Morak as it needed to stay beyond the reach of the New Republic in order to conduct its operations, such as refining and mining rhydonium for fuel. The Imperial Remnant used HCVw A9.2 juggernaut transports while on Morak, due to the unstable elements of rhydonium. The Imperial refinery was a vital part of the mining operations on Morak, and was run by former Imperial Security Bureau officers. On Nevarro, the Imperial Remnant operated in Nevarro City in a safe house, as well as at an Imperial base in the outskirts of the city. During the Clash on Nevarro, the assassin droid-turned-nanny droid IG-11 sacrificed himself to protect Grogu from the Imperial Remnant.[2]

The Imperial Remnant also operated on the oceanic moon Trask, using it to collect equipment for its forces. Moff Gideon commanded a number of Imperial Remnant forces,[2][4] including those on Nevarro[5] and on Trask.[6] "The Client," who operated in Nevarro City,[5] hired Din Djarin to locate Grogu, as he was important to the Imperial Remnant.[4]

History

(for laterrrr) Following the first death of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine during the Battle of Endor, the Galactic Empire began to collapse into various warring factions and remnants. These included the Chadawan government led by Governor Bordanivaux and Colonel Madrighast, the Imperial-Royalist coalition,[1] the remnant led by Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck, the faction of Grand General Kenner Loring,[2] a remnant fleet under the command of Moff Royen,[3] a remnant in the Anoat sector subservient to Moff Ubrik Adelhard,[4] a remnant of Velcar led by Governor Ecressys,[5] the faction of Commodore Visler Korda,[6] the Yomo Council, and others.[1]

With the Imperial Military's forces splintering, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane took control of a vast portion of the Imperial Navy, and began moving many military units to the planet Jakku. Sloane was secretly a subordinate to Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax, who was enforcing Palpatine's Contingency. When Sloane fell out of line and deserted, Rax gave himself the title Counselor to the Empire and led the Shadow Council, which was su--

"When one chooses to walk the Way of the Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey. How can one be a coward if one chooses this way of life?"
―A Mandalorian armorer[src]

The Mandalorians were a clan-based predominantly human cultural group that was composed of members from multiple species all bound by a common culture, creed, and code. They originated on the planet Mandalore in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories and had a particularly important role in galactic history as legendary warriors against the Jedi. From their homeworld, Mandalorians had flourished across Mandalorian Space and the galaxy at large, colonizing worlds such as Kalevala, Krownest, and Concord Dawn.

Mandalore had a largely martial history, but since the Mandalorian Civil War, pacifist sentiment had begun to emerge, and, by the time of the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians had been reformed under the New Mandalorian regime led by Duchess Satine Kryze of House Kryze while the Old Mandalorians scattered across the galaxy as mercenaries. Under the New Mandalorian government, Mandalore remained neutral and participated in the Council of Neutral Systems as a leading member. Despite enjoying decades of peace, conflict persisted between the New Mandalorian government and factions such as Death Watch, a group of exiled Mandalorian warriors who wanted Mandalore to return to the traditional warlike ways of the past. Such conflict led to another civil war by 19 BBY that toppled the ruling New Mandalorian regime and restored the old Mandalorians, but the conflict culminated in the occupation of Mandalore by the Galactic Republic and its subsequent government, the Galactic Empire.

Following the rise of the Empire, Bo-Katan Kryze was made Regent of Mandalore, but she refused to follow Emperor Sheev Palpatine. As a result, she was replaced with Gar Saxon, a Death Watch Mandalorian super commando, who was installed as Viceroy over Mandalore, his rule enforced by the Imperial Super Commandos. As with many worlds in the galaxy, Mandalore was oppressed under Imperial rule, with weapons such as the Arc Pulse Generator being developed to pacify and reign in the war-like civilization. Clan Saxon eventually came into conflict with Clan Kryze, Clan Wren, and the former leader of the Mandalorian Protectors Fenn Rau. After the deaths of Gar Saxon and his brother and successor, Governor Tiber Saxon, and with the support of the early Rebellion, Bo-Katan Kryze claimed the Darksaber and took the title Mand'alor. Kryze united the Mandalorian resistance as another civil war erupted on Mandalore, a part of the galaxy-wide struggle against Imperial rule.

After the fall of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic, and following the Empire's Great Purge of the Mandalorians, some Mandalorians went into hiding. One such group was called "the Tribe," who hid in a covert on the planet Nevarro. However, the Tribe were forced to relocate after revealing themselves to protect one of their own. The Tribe was eventually wiped out by an Imperial remnant, but some of its members survived.

Organization

Houses and clans

Mandalorian society was structured in Mandalorian clans that were organized under a Mandalorian house. Clan Rook was a vassal of House Kast. House Kryze contained Clan Kryze. House Vizsla contained Clan Vizsla, Clan Saxon, Clan Wren. Other clans were Clan Awaud, Clan Eldar, Clan Mudhorn.

Factions and groups

After pacifism grew and the martial traditionalists were exiled, Mandalorian society splintered into the New Mandalorians, the Old Mandalorians, and Death Watch. Death Watch subsequently splintered into the Mandalorian super commandos of the Shadow Collective and the Mandalore resistance. Concord Dawn Protectorate was a part of the Galactic Empire, The Tribe was a cult in hiding.

Being a warrior culture, the Mandalorians had many militant throughout its history. Rally masters served as battlefield commanders, and Mandalorian crusaders were responsible for Mandalorian expansion. They were followed by Mandalorian Neo-Crusaderss, as well as the ancient Mandalorian Protectors. Journeyman Protectors were part, as was Skull Squadron. Prior to, and during, the Clone Wars, the Mandalorian Guard and its Mandalorian secret service served as the premier law enforcement branch of the Mandalorian government. The Nite Owls were active during this time, and formed part of the Mandalore resistance during the civil war. Later, the Mandalorian resistance took place against the Galactic Empire. Vlemoth Port battalion was active. The Fighting Corps and the Children of the Watch.

"Ezra, the armor I wear is five hundred years old. I reforged it to my liking, but the battles, the history, the blood all lives within it. And the same goes for every Mandalorian."
"This armor is part of our identity. It makes us Mandalorians who we are."
―Sabine Wren and Alrich Wren[src]

Mandalorian armor developed a legendary reputation that was feared across the galaxy[22] and was visually distinctive with its honeycomb plate patterns and menacing T-shaped visors. The armor was made of beskar, a metal extremely resistant to damage and malleable enough to be forged into armor.[15] An ancient tradition and vital part of Mandalorian culture was forging the beskar into armor, which was carried out by Mandalorian Armorers,[23] who could also forge beskar into other gear like whistling birds.[24] On top of the fabled armor, Mandalorian warriors were equipped with anti-Jedi tools such as jetpacks, magnetized boots, tactical displays, and armed gauntlets[25] that featured weaponry and tools designed to combat the abilities of the Jedi.[26] Some of this weaponry not only helped combat but outright mimicked Jedi abilities, such as their wrist-mounted sonic repulsors that knocked objects away like a Force push would.[27] They generally favored WESTAR-35 blaster pistols[28] and Z-6 jetpacks, which could project missiles.[29] The archetypal Mandalorian starfighter design was called the Kom'rk-class fighter/transport.[30]

Although the ancient warrior culture of the Mandalorians is long past its heyday, its presence can still be felt on many worlds. Among the most recognizable Mandalorian items are their meticulously crafted suits of battle armor. Suits of Mandalorian armor offer some of the best personal protection in the galaxy, and their owners typically take advantage of the superlative construction to install numerous additional sub-systems and weapons. While there are few armorer's capable of crafting this armor, the prestige of owning it comes at a premium to many bounty hunters.

Some hunters feel a spiritual kinship with the legendary Mandalorian warriors, who are described in stories across the galaxy as deadly— if ruthless — warriors and hunters. Others revel in the fear the suits still inspire, and many more simply recognize the quality of the armor as better than many of the best modern designs.

A few warriors even claim lineal descent from the old Mandalorian clans, such as the Death Watch terrorist group from the Clone Wars, although not everyone takes such claims seriously. Whatever their reasons, hunters who acquire Mandalorian armor often value their suits above nearly any other possession, and customize them with carefully selected modifications. Such upgrades make the suits even more durable, provide new utility to the wearer, or conceal deadly tricks to help a bounty hunter get the edge in any situation.

The basic profile of Mandalorian armor represents an unmodified suit of armor, but almost no one who wears the armor leaves it unmodified for long. Common attachments installed into Mandalorian armor include tracking systems as well as enhanced optic suites, strength enhancing systems, and vacuum seals. The best suits of Mandalorian armor are often upgraded with features such as Cortosis Weaves or Superior Armor customization. Mandalorians also frequently wore jetpacks with their armor, but typically from an external mount, rather than as an integrated attachment. Two example setups of Mandalorian armor are detailed below: Novice Hunter's Armor (Tracking systems, enhanced optics suites, can cost from 8,675 to 10,350 credits when found in the market). Veteran Commando's Armor (Integrated holsters, strength enhancing systems, Superior Armor Customization, vacuum sealed, can cost from 12,250 to 18,500 credits).

Paragraphs from No Disintegrations (Fantasy Flight Games)

A Mandalorian warrior in an arena.

A Mandalorian warrior in an arena.

The Mandalorians are among the most feared and recognizable combatants in the galaxy. Respected as members of the pinnacle of warrior cultures, most Mandalorians receive comprehensive combat training during adolescence While Mandalorians once united to launch great crusades that reshaped galactic borders. They are now fractured and strewn about the galaxy, wielding little power

Mandalorians are typically humans, though their practice of adoption allows members of any species to be raised within Mandalorian culture. Despite their reputation as fearsome warriors with keen tactical minds, there are no significant biological or physiological differences between Mandalorian humans and baseline humans. Oddly enough, there are no recorded instances of Force sensitivity appearing in Mandalorian society, though this might be owed to a lack of Jedi testing and Republic record keeping.

Mandalorian society traditionally centered around warfare. Throughout history, its members fought for both honor and credits with equal fervor. Recently, Mandalorian culture has fractured into three separate groups: The New Mandalorians, the Death Watch, and the Old Mandalorians.

The New Mandalorians followed Duchess Satine Kryze during the Clone Wars, and believed in moving Mandalorian culture beyond its warrior past. These pacifist Mandalorians believed in the potential economic power of Mandalore, built around the export of Beskar, or Mandalorian Iron. With complete control of the beskar mines, the New Mandalorians, after years of civil war, wrested control of their homeworld and steered their people onto a more peaceful path. Unfortunately, it was not to last.

When the New Mandalorians rose from the ashes of Mandalore's Civil War, they banished unrepentant warrior-clans to the moon of Concordia. The Death Watch is the most infamous group, known for their bloodthirsty savagery and desire for conquest. During the Clone Wars, the Death Watch returned to exact their revenge. They were ultimately defeated, but members remain in hiding on Mandalore and Concordia awaiting the next call to arms.

The Old Mandalorians also endured exile after the Civil War. However, rather than plot revenge on Concordia, many resettled elsewhere in the galaxy. Concord Dawn, Gargan, Ordo, and Vlemoth Port are but a few of the worlds that support Mandalorian expatriates. Here, the Mandalorians live as they have for millennia, working for the highest bidder. Old Mandalorians are considered honorable and dangerously competent amongst their deadly trade. They prioritize their family and clan above all else, and train as warriors from a young age.

Mandalore is a planet scarred by years of civil war. While lush forests, lakes, and mountains once covered the planet, it is now predominantly barren wasteland. Inhabitants are forced to live in domed cities, such as Sundari, the capital during the reign of Duchess Kryze's New Mandalorians. Sundari enclosed one of the largest active beskar mines on Mandalore, making it a major strategic asset. Presently, the Empire has control of Mandalore, where it operates an Imperial Academy.

Mandalorians are often associated with warfare, but the New Mandalorians can be found in a variety of civilian professions, especially those that focus on technology, politics, or commerce. Still, most Mandalorians in the galaxy wage war for a living. Both the Death Watch and the Old Mandalorians train in all scales of warfare. Most gravitate towards work as elite commandos, relentless bounty hunters, or invisible assassins. Still, it is possible to find combat-oriented Mandalorians focused on medicine, technology, and of course, military leadership.

A mercenary group of Mandalorian warriors operates out of Vlemoth Port and are available for hire. It also provides a comms code to contact it and set up a meeting on Vlemoth Port.

The Mandalorians are at battalion strength: approximately 800 warriors.

The Mandalorians at Vlemoth Port left Mandalore before the Clone Wars. They are of the honorable mercenary sort.

The Mandalorians do not offer starfighter escorts, but they are looking to expand their operations by adding starships.

Chatting with Skahvi Renlow: "Are there local allies?" "Folks who'll step up to fight the Empire? None I'd want to work with. I suppose you can talk to Beroya. Runs a clan of Mandalorians nearby that'll work for anyone if the credits are alright. Other than them, I suppose you could go to Kowak if you're desperate."

"What about the Mandalorians? Yeath, they bunk at Vlemolh Port, one of those trade backwaters. Beroya's a real hard case, but all those Mandalorians are. I can comm Beroya now and set up a meeting for you." Skahvi leaves, returning a few minutes later. "Okay. you're all set. They'll have a representative at Vlemoth Station. hangar 13."

Language

Although most spoke Galactic Basic fluently, Mando'a was the traditional language of the Mandalorians. In addition to a more traditional alphabet, Mandalorians also used a set of glyphs unique to their society that adorned armor, vehicles, terns, and buildings.[31] This written language was known as Mandalorian.[32] Mando'a also had at least one dialect, which was native to the moon of Mandalore, Concordia.[33]

Mando'a was considered popular among the Old Mandalorian faction, as they found that the language allowed a greater degree of precision with speaking when discussing combat.[31]

Death Watch flies into battle

Mandalorians were some of the most feared warriors in the galaxy.[34] As prideful warriors, they held combat as the cornerstone to their culture, their individual identity, and spirit. Mandalorians shared a strong code[35] of honor[36] that could be invoked to settle disputes with one-on-one combat that would conclude with the death of one opponent.[14] This affinity and tradition for single combat extended beyond justice, however, as Mandalorians even sought single combat simply for the glory of fighting a great opponent, such as a Jedi Knight,[37] and even used it to settle leadership disputes. However, some in House Vizsla refused to accept non-Mandalorians like Maul from ever becoming ruler of Mandalore via such traditions. Maul himself had Prime Minister Almec lie to the Mandalorian people by claiming that Satine Kryze had killed Pre Vizsla, Maul's predecessor.[38] The Darksaber was appropriated by House Vizsla as a symbol of authority and leadership used to unify the Mandalorians.[27] The weapon became revered and was passed down to new leaders who defeated the previous leader in combat, with claiming the weapon in any other way being considered illegitimate.[19]

Mandalorian clan structure was like a pyramid,[39] with the ruler, or Mand'alor,[40][7] at the top and the Protectors enforcing their rule. Below them were the political factions known as houses, which were made up of family clans.[39] One example was House Vizsla, which was comprised of Clan Vizsla and Clan Wren.[14] Under the rule of Duchess Satine Kryze and the New Mandalorian government during the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians had mostly rejected their martial ancestral ways but maintained a police force and secret service, who wielded electropoles and shields.[41]

Though the Mandalorians were usually distinctly human, one did not need to be human to become one. Instead, what one needed to do was follow the Mandalorian Creed. Thus, some non-human individuals could be adopted into the Mandalorian creed. One such individual was a member of Yoda's species, who was inducted as a member of Clan Mudhorn.[10]

Mandalorian warriors possessed advanced combat training[25] from their many wars that dated to before the Republic's existence.[42] However, it wasn't until their conflicts with the Jedi that they developed their signature combat style.[43] This style entailed a Mandalorian utilizing a mix of melee, ranged, and hand-to-hand techniques[38] while incorporating the technology in his or her vambraces to surprise a Jedi Knight in combat, allowing the Mandalorian to finish the Jedi off.[44] Mandalorian warriors continued to utilize this style of combat against the Jedi for some time[45] as well as against other opponents.

The Darksaber became a feared weapon in the days of the Old Republic as Mandalorian warriors of House Vizsla used it to slay many Jedi.[8] When the Jedi claimed the weapon and stored it in the Jedi Temple, Mandalorian warriors would raid the Temple to reclaim the weapon that had become a symbol of their warrior ways.[27] During the Clone Wars, the weapon also came to symbolize leadership of Death Watch as well as House Vizsla.[8]

Art

Cubism was a popular Mandalorian art movement during the Clone Wars. After the war, the paintings that had depicted the awfulness of war were used to promote and glorify it instead.[46] Mandalorians typically trended towards strong angled and hexagonal lines, such as diamond and honeycomb shapes, in their architecture, vehicles, clothing, and even haircuts.[40] The Darksaber notably reflected this style, with an angluar pommel, hand guard, and blade emitter.[27] Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian and a member of the Spectres, was a talented graffiti artist who personalized and painted her armor.[46] A statue of Tarre Vizsla was erected on Mandalore and became a symbol for hope and Mandalorian history. When the Empire constructed an outpost on the statue, some Mandalorians saw this as offensive, eventually destroying the outpost to restore the emblematic statue's appearance.[47]

Cuisine

Mandalorian cuisine was prevalent throughout the galaxy, and consisted of different foodstuff. Tiingilar was a spicy Mandalorian stew that was composed of a hearty mix of meat, varying vegetables and a potent mix of spices. It was said that the scent of the stew was hot enough to burn nose hairs. Uj'alayi was a traditional and favorite Mandalorian dessert passed down generation to generation that used a variety of nuts and fruits. The cake was infused with a sweet spiced syrup that kept the cake moist.[48]

For beverages, Mandalorians were known to make tea blended from the florets of the Cassius tree, believing that it was good for one's health.[36] Kri'gee was a bottled Mandalorian beverage that was a type of ale.[49]

Astrography

Overview

Mandalorians were active across the galaxy throughout galactic history. The homeworld of the Mandalorians was the planet Mandalore, which was located in the Outer Rim Territories' Mandalore system. The Mandalore system contained Mandalore's moon, Concordia, and the planet Kalevala. The sector Mandalore was located on was known as Mandalorian Space,[50] and contained other star systems such as the Concord Dawn system and the New Kleyman system. These two systems respectively contained the Mandalorian worlds of Concord Dawn and Krownest.

Mandalore system

Kalevala, located in the Mandalore system.

Kalevala, located in the Mandalore system.

Mandalore was the homeworld of the Mandalorians, and had a single moon, Concordia. Mandalore and its moon were located in the Mandalore system, along with the planet Kalevala.

Concord Dawn system

Located in the Mandalore sector's Concord Dawn system,[51] Concord Dawn was a Mandalorian planet with at least three moons that was famous for its elite Mandalorian warriors. In ancient times, Concord Dawn suffered through many wars that eventually resulted in much of the planet's southern hemisphere in being destroyed, creating a large field of asteroids nearby.[14]

The third moon of Concord Dawn was characterized by having a breathable atmosphere to humans, with its terrain featuring canyons, mountains, and rocky terrain with scores of trees.[52] Additionally, the moon contained the Protectors Camp, a Mandalorian military base used to patrol the system.[14]

New Kleyman system

The Mandalorians eventually expanded to the New Kleyman system,[53] also located in the Mandalore sector of space. A frigid planet,[19] Krownest was a terrestrial world that was covered in ice and snow, possessing a cold climate[54] and an atmosphere breathable to humans.[19] The planet's terrain was largely consisting of mountains[54] that were dotted with forests of tall trees.[19]

Krownest served as the ancestral of of Clan Wren of the House Vizsla,[19] a Mandalorian clan of legendary warriors.[55] Clan Wren built the Wren Stronghold on the shores of a frozen lake.[56] During the Galactic Civil War, Clan Wren monitored starship traffic around Krownest, and ships were either met by a contingent of Mandalorian warriors[19] or a group of Fang-class starfighters.[57] Additionally, Krownest hosted the Scabbard Monument of Krownest, which held at least one Mandalorian artifact.[49]

Other locations

Mandalorian worlds

Other Mandalorian worlds include Ordo and Gargon.[31] Ordo was a planet that was home to the Archaic Arsenal of Ordo, which housed at least one ancient Mandalorian artifact.[49] Additionally, Old Mandalorians settled on Ordo when they were exiled from Mandalore, as well as Gargon.[31] Gargon was a Mandalorian world that was characterized by rocky and mountainous terrain with a breathable atmosphere.[49]

Non-Mandalorian worlds

In ancient times, the Mandalorian crusades resulted in the devastation of the Inner Rim planet of Ubduria.[58] Subsequently, according to the quasi-historical Qel-Droma Epics, during the reign of the Sith Empire led by Exar Kun, the Mandalorians maintained a contingent at the Iron Citadel on the planet Empress Teta.[12]

A non-Mandalorian world that also received a sizeable amount of Old Mandalorians was Vlemoth Port, which was located in the Outer Rim's Instrop sector and had a breathable atmosphere, forests, swamps, oceans, and tundras. The Mandalorians established the settlement of Arumorut.[31] The moon of Zanbar, characterized by a breathable atmosphere, plateaus, and swamps, also hosted a contingent of Mandalorian warriors from the Death Watch during the Clone Wars, where they maintained a camp.[36] Previously, the Death Watch was headquartered on the planet Carlac, where they also maintained a camp. Carlac also consisted of a breathable atmosphere, but had a cold climate, forests, mountains, and snowy plains.[37]

Death Watch, and its successor, the Sith-Mandalorian Shadow Collective, also maintained a presence[59] in the Mid Rim's Bright Jewel system.[60] The Shadow Collective maintained a presence near the celestial body Phelbos, which was surrounded by rings of asteroids. Vizsla Keep 09 was constructed on one such ring.[61] Additionally, the Shadow Collective were briefly located on Ord Mantell in the same system, maintaining a ground and space presence.[62] Subsequently, Shadow Collective briefly maintained a Mandalorian presence on Dathomir.[63]

After the Great Purge of Mandalore, Mandalorian society fractured and coverts were active, with an orthodox sect[9] known as the Tribe creating a Mandalorian covert in the sewers on Nevarro. There, they resided and only surfaced sporadically until the covert was exposed and a majority of the Mandalorians were killed and the survivors forced to flee.[10] Similarly, a Mandalorian resistance covert was briefly active on the estuary ocean moon of Trask as they attacked Imperial remnant shipping.[9] The Children of the Watch maintained a covert on the Glavis Ringworld, and then moved to a secondary covert.

History

Formation

"The Mandalorians have endured war since before the formation of the Republic."
―Fenn Rau[src]

Originating from the planet Mandalore in the Outer Rim's Mandalore sector, the Mandalorians' history was one of warriors who would become feared throughout the galaxy, eventually gaining a reputation as mercenaries and bounty hunters.[25] The Mandalorians were founded prior to the formation of the Galactic Republic[52] in 25,000 BBY[64] and had already endured war by that time.[52] The ancient Mandalorians[20] were allegedly able to tame the great Mythosaur[65] and ride it.[65]

During the Old Republic-era,[66] the Mandalorians undertook a series of wars of expansion. During this time, rally masters were active, and served as battlefield commanders.[49]

Conquests and crusades

Eventually, a group of armor-clad sword-wielding Mandalorian warriors known as the Mandalorian crusaders waged[67] a crusade[68] against other peoples they deemed inferior. The Mandalorians eventually reached Ubduria in the Inner Rim of the galaxy, and devastated the world out of contempt for the native Ubdurians, whom they viewed as dishonorable cowards.[69]

The crusades eventually resulted in the Mandalorian crusaders confronting the Jedi. The Mandalorian-Jedi War was fought between the two factions

The crusaders conquered several worlds and systems beyond their own, among them the planets of Krownest as well as Concord Dawn, a planet that bore the scars of a hundred wars, with almost a third of its planetary mass fractured and reduced to space rubble.[42][14]

Mandalorian-Jedi War

War against the Jedi

The Mandalorian crusaders' expansion eventually brought them into conflict with the Jedi Order and the Republic they protected.[67] Their first confrontations with the Jedi Knights took the Mandalorians by surprise: their use of the Force and the powers it granted them was a challenge that they had never seen before. However, the prideful nature of the Mandalorians would not allow that disadvantage to stand, and they began to devise ways to overcome the powers of the enigmatic Jedi. The result was a major advancement in the development of Mandalorian technology, specifically of their arsenal and their infamous armor. They also developed a fighting style that combined their entire arsenal and skills to allow them to counteract the Jedi's supernatural abilities.[43] With these new technologies, the Mandalorians began to win their share of conflicts with the Jedi, and their warriors earned the reputation of being capable of confronting and defeating Jedi Knights.[44][25] The generations-long conflict ensured an enmity that lasted for several wars and was remembered by the wider galaxy even millennia later during the Clone Wars.[8] These clashes between the Mandalorians and the Jedi Order became immortalized through cubist murals displayed in Mandalore's capital city of Sundari and on the moon Concordia.

Despite their near-continuous conflicts, the Mandalorians and the Jedi were not always in conflict. The most prominent[source?] example of this was when the Mandalorian-born Tarre Vizsla, a member of the powerful House Vizsla, was inducted into the Jedi Order as a child. True to his Mandalorian nature, Vizsla distinguished himself from his Jedi peers by creating a unique lightsaber: the Darksaber. At some point in his life, Tarre Vizsla became the Mand'alor, the sole ruler of Mandalore and a revered figure among his people. Following his death, the Jedi recovered the Darksaber and returned it to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.[27] Mandalorians later honored him by building a large statue of him on Mandalore to cement his legacy.[47]

During the last centuries of the Old Republic, the Mandalorians struck at the very heart of their enemies' power: members of House Vizsla infiltrated the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and stole[8] Tarre Vizsla's Darksaber. They used the saber to conquer the entirety of Mandalore, and united the diverse houses and clans throughout their territory.[27]

Decline

The devastation of Mandalore

"Once upon a time, these plains were covered with grass. But I never saw it. This destruction happened before I was born."
―Sabine Wren[src]

Despite the unity that House Vizsla had brought to Mandalore,[27] such was the warrior temperament of the Mandalorians that it did not last. Constant warfare and relentless campaigns of conquest ravaged Mandalore. Warlords from various clans emerged to fight the Jedi, but also to fight among themselves. The last great struggle between the Mandalorian warlords and the Jedi occurred on Mandalore itself, and caused a cataclysmic event that devastated the planet, scorching much of its surface into a lifeless, white desert.[40]

This event ended the war between the Mandalorians and the Jedi, as well as the Mandalorians' dreams of expansion. As a result of their homeworld's devastation, a major focus on reconstruction occupied the warriors for a time; the uninhabitable conditions of Mandalore's surface forced them to adapt, just as they had adapted to the Jedi's use of the Force. Instead of abandoning Mandalore, they constructed sealed dome cities, such as the capital city of Sundari.[70] Other Mandalorian clans chose to settle on worlds of the Mandalore sector, such as Clan Wren on the snow planet of Krownest,[19] while the Protectors established a base on the moon of Concord Dawn.[71]

As the victorious Jedi helped establish the new Galactic Republic as the dominant galactic government, the Mandalorians remained isolated in their sector, their warrior ways and desire of conquest still alive though they would eventually fall into civil conflict.[8]

In the final war of the larger, ancient Mandalorian conflict, a battle between the Jedi[40] and the Mandalorian warlords[70] caused a cataclysm[40] that scorched[70] much[72] of the planet Mandalore's surface into lifeless white desert,[73] uninhabitable outside of hermetically sealed dome cities.[70]

Pacifism

"Mandalore's violent past is behind us. All of our warriors were exiled to our moon, Concordia. They died out years ago."
―Prime Minister Almec[src]
The New Mandalorian Ruling Council

The New Mandalorian Ruling Council

In the years prior to the Invasion of Naboo, another conflict broke out between the Mandalorian people: the Mandalorian Civil War. The civil war was fought between competing ideals within Mandalorian society, including those who supported Mandalore's warrior past and the New Mandalorians, led by Satine Kryze.[18] Also involved were the Protectors of Concord Dawn, an elite group of warriors sworn to defend the Concord Dawn system.[14] At the end of the civil war, Satine Kryze ruled as the Duchess of Mandalore, and the warrior clans were exiled to Concordia.[8] Some of these clans became the Death Watch, plotting their coup against the new regime, while others left Concordia and resettled in other parts of the galaxy, becoming the Old Mandalorians. These Old Mandalorians started working as private mercenaries, with no interest in revenge.[17]

Satine gradually rebuilt following the damages caused by the war. The considerable number of deaths had left Satine with a fierce hatred of violence, and she became a staunch pacifist. She reformed Mandalorian way of life. She also established a Mandalorian Government Council that had several Ministers, a cabinet which was led by a Prime Minister.[74] By the time of the Clone Wars, the position was occupied by Almec. Under her rule, Mandalore prospered and turned into a modern and peaceful society.[8] This new government also eventually joined the Galactic Republic.[75]

When the Clone Wars erupted between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Satine made sure that Mandalore was neutral and continued to prosper. She then became leader[8] of the Council of Neutral Systems, a Galactic Senate conglomerate[76] of 1,500 star systems who wished to stay out of the conflict.[8]

Resurrection

"Listen, Duchess. Do you hear the people? They cry out for change. Your weak-minded rule of Mandalore is at an end. The resurrection of our warrior past is about to begin!"

Pre Vizsla's Death Watch allied with Count Dooku and the Separatists.

Unknown to the New Mandalorians, the Concordian governor Pre Vizsla revived the Mandalorian culture as the Death Watch.[22] Among the leadership of the group was Duchess Satine's sister, Bo-Katan Kryze,[37] the leader of the Nite Owls, a group of elite female warriors.[11] Death Watch began committing terrorist acts against the pacifist regime, including attacks on Mandalore, on a Republic cruiser,[8] and on Kalevala, a planet in the Mandalore sector that had been colonized by Mandalorians. Vizsla longed to restore the warrior heritage of the Mandalorians, and conspired with Count Dooku of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Vizsla hoped the Republic would believe an intervention was necessary, so Death Watch could fight their invasion and be hailed by the Mandalorians as heroes. However, the plot failed, and the Galactic Senate rejected the Mandalore Defense Resolution.[75]

The outcasts of Death Watch fled to become mercenaries, constructing a base on Carlac. The group began plotting for revenge, allying first with Separatist senator Lux Bonteri to plot Dooku's downfall,[37] and then with the renegade Sith Lord Maul's Shadow Collective to win back the support of Mandalore's people.[36] However, after Vizsla betrayed Maul, Maul killed him and became Death Watch's leader, prompting Bo-Katan Kryze to rebel against him, forming the Mandalore resistance.[38]

Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi investigated the coup, but was captured, and Maul killed Satine to spite him. Kenobi escaped and returned to inform the Galactic Republic; in the meantime, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, captured Maul and imprisoned him in the Spire on Stygeon Prime.[11] Maul's Mandalorian super commandos proved to be loyal and freed him,[77] but nevertheless Maul's hold on Mandalore collapsed.[78] Following the Siege of Mandalore, Bo-Katan was named Regent of Mandalore. Eventually Kryze was ousted out by Clan Saxon when she refused to follow Emperor Palpatine,[15] and the planet was ultimately occupied by the Galactic Empire.[78] Meanwhile, the Protectors, who regarded Death Watch as traitors, assisted the Grand Army of the Republic in training clone troopers.[14] Skull Squadron, commanded by Fenn Rau, assisted the Republic by training clone trooper pilots and fought in the Third Battle of Mygeeto.[79]

Age of the Empire

Tristan Wren, on Gar Saxon[src]

After the Imperial occupation of Mandalore, Rau's Protectors established a base on the third moon of Concord Dawn, getting paid by the Empire to protect their system on their behalf,[71] while other Mandalorians under the leadership of Gar Saxon, the Imperial Viceroy of Mandalore, would go on to serve the Empire, with some joining in the Imperial Military as Imperial Super Commandos.[42]

In 2 BBY, Saxon and his Imperial Super Commandos wiped out the Mandalorian Protectors; as a result, Rau decided to join the rebellion.[42] Later that year, Sabine Wren found the Darksaber on Dathomir after she, Kanan Jarrus, and Ezra Bridger fought a battle there against Maul.[80] At the urging of Fenn and the rebel leaders Hera Syndulla and Jarrus, Sabine agreed to begin training with the Darksaber so that she could reunify her people and rally them to help the rebellion.[27]

Following Sabine's training, she, Rau, Jarrus, and Bridger returned to Krownest to Clan Wren's Stronghold. There, Sabine attempted to convince the clan's leader and her mother, Countess Ursa Wren, to join the rebellion. At first, Ursa decided to surrender the Jedi to Viceroy Saxon and his Imperial Super Commandos in exchange for the Darksaber and sparing her daughter. When Saxon branded her and Clan Wren enemies of the Empire, Ursa and her son Tristan fought Saxon and commandos alongside Rau and the Jedi. When Saxon tried to kill Ursa with the Darksaber, Sabine took Bridger's lightsaber and fought Saxon. Sabine was then able to reclaim the Darksaber and subdue Saxon. When Saxon tried to shoot Sabine, he was killed by Ursa. His death created a power vacuum among the Mandalorians. Sabine then decided to stay behind and help her mother, clan, and Rau find Mandalore's true leader, to whom she would give the Darksaber.[19]

Soon afterward, Bridger returned to Krownest, having escaped from the Battle of Atollon, to request help from Clan Wren for the rebels against Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was attacking the rebel base on Atollon. Although unable to send a full force, due to their current struggles against Clan Saxon, Ursa agreed to allow Sabine, Tristan, and Rau to lead several Mandalorian volunteers and ships to accompany Ezra and Chopper back to Atollon. The Gauntlet and several Fang fighters traveled back to Atollon, where they destroyed the Interdictor vessel that was preventing the rebels from escaping. Able to escape, the remaining rebels fled the system, while the Mandalorians returned to Krownest.[57]

In 1 BBY,[81] Clan Wren under the leadership of Ursa and Sabine fought on Mandalore against Clan Saxon and the Empire. At some point during the Mandalorian civil war, Sabine and her younger brother, Tristan, arrived at the statue of Tarre Vizsla and discovered that the Empire had built an outpost situated on it. Sabine and Tristan destroyed the outpost and restored the statue to its original state.[47] Clan Wren was joined by several other factions and clans including the sole Journeyman Protector Rau, Lady Bo-Katan's Clan Kryze, Clan Vizsla, Clan Rook, and Clan Eldar. Sabine and the Rebel Alliance's Spectres Jarrus and Bridger also attacked an Imperial prison hoping to find Alrich Wren, although Alrich had been moved.[15]

Sabine then offered Kryze the Darksaber, but she refused knowing she was not the leader her sister, Satine, had been. Together they attacked a convoy guarded by the super commandos. They were then able to rescue Alrich. However, the commandos and the Empire then deployed an AT-DP armed with the "the Duchess" weapon prototype that disintegrated numerous warriors of Clans Wren and Kryze. Only Tristan and Ursa survived the onslaught. The survivors then regrouped. Sabine and Bo-Katan then planned to destroy it by sneaking aboard Governor Tiber Saxon's Star Destroyer near Sundari to atone for her role in creating the weapon.[15]

The combined Mandalorian and rebel forces managed to infiltrate Saxon's Star Destroyer. Following a skirmish, they destroyed the Duchess and Saxon's vessel. After the battle, Lady Bo-Katan assumed the Darksaber and the mantle of leadership over the Mandalorian clans. The Vizslas, Wrens, Kryzes, Rooks, Eldars, and the sole remaining Protector, Fenn Rau, pledged allegiance to the new Mand'alor.[15] Kryze's reign as Mand'alor was short lived[source?] when the Empire started the Great Purge and the Darksaber was taken by ISB officer, Moff Gideon.[9]

A tribe, known simply as "the Tribe," went into hiding after the Great Purge

Following the Great Purge, surviving Mandalorians went into hiding,[24] and the Mandalorian people were believed to have perished completely.[82] By circa 9 ABY,[64] one tribe was hiding in a covert on Nevarro, a world in the outer reaches of the galaxy. One of its members was the bounty hunter Din Djarin, known as "The Mandalorian." After Djarin did business with an Imperial remnant, it caused a disturbance within the covert, with one member, Paz Vizsla, calling Djarin a coward for dealing with the Imperials. Soon after the confrontation as well as a conversation with a Mandalorian known as "The Armorer," Djarin decided to go against the remnant and rescue Grogu, whom he had captured and turned over to them. However, after he performed a rescue, he was stopped by the Bounty Hunters' Guild, who sought good relations with the local Imperials. Then, Mandalorians from the covert emerged from hiding and fought against the Bounty Hunters' Guild, protecting one of their own. Djarin escaped, but, as a result of openly fighting, the tribe was forced to relocate the covert.[24]

Despite the attempts of the Tribe to relocate the covert, a large majority of them had been killed by Gideon's Imperial remnant. The Armorer was among those who survived, and it was speculated that others escaped Nevarro. The Armorer later established Din Djarin's clan, which consisted of both Djarin and Grogu, an infantle member of Yoda's species, when Djarin returned to Nevarro.[10]

During this time, Lady Kryze and two of her followers highjacking Imperial shipments on Trask. Their goal was to use the shipments to reclaim Mandalore and have Kryze reinstated as the Mand'alor. Kryze also enlisted the aid of Djarin in echange for locating surviving Jedi. With Djarin's help, Kryze and her followers were able to take the cruiser and it's cargo. Unfortunately, the cruiser's captain refused to reveal the location of the darksaber and took his own life.[9]

Mandalorian armor struck fear in the hearts of many across the galaxy.[22] The Trandoshan hunter Garnac kept a Mandalorian Neo-Crusader helmet as a trophy.[83] The bounty hunter Boba Fett wore armor inherited from his father Jango Fett, a bounty hunter raised as a Mandalorian foundling,[84] keeping the memory of the Mandalorians alive well into the Galactic Civil War.[85] Jango's armor inspired those of the soldiers cloned from him, starting a design lineage that continued down to the stormtroopers of the First Order.[7]

Following the Great Purge, the majority of the Mandalorians had been killed,[82] making them a rare sight in the galaxy. One group known as "the Tribe" survived and hid on Nevarro,[24] though later they were mostly exterminated by an Imperial remnant. Afterward, Din Djarin was tasked with searching the galaxy for Grogu's species as their own clan.[10] Several Mandalorian war banners decorated the entrance of Maz Kanata's castle on the planet Takodana.[86]

Behind the scenes

Joe Johnston's concept art exploring the "supercommandos"

When The Empire Strikes Back was in pre-production, there was an idea for a squad of "supercommandos" from the Mandalore system armed with weapons built into their white suits.[87] The costume prototype was repainted for Boba Fett, and the idea of the Mandalorians was paid lip service to in The Empire Strikes Back novelization by Donald F. Glut. As mentioned in the novelization, the Mandalorians were now imagined as "a group of evil warriors defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars."[88] Fett's popularity inspired a wealth of Expanded Universe literature about him, which assumed he and his father were Mandalorian like their armor.

When it came time to introduce the Mandalorians in season two of The Clone Wars, George Lucas and Dave Filoni looked at Mandalore in the Expanded Universe and decided to keep the broad strokes of their history.[40] Much of the Mandalorian history referenced was subsequently rebranded Legends, and not considered canon.

Filoni wanted to give the Mandalorian people's appearance a "Nordic flavor." The Clone Wars art department looked at Fett's armor and translated its angles, particularly the diamond shape on the breastplate, into every aspect of the Mandalorian aesthetic. Filoni and Lucas felt it should be made clear that the ancient Mandalorians were an army, not a ragtag band of warriors wearing customized armor, so Death Watch would look uniform. (The decision also kept Boba Fett's armor unique.) Filoni hoped to eventually show how the Mandalorians became mercenaries who supplied Fett with his unusual armor.[40] When Death Watch reappeared in season four's "A Friend in Need," the characters were given a greater variety of gear, lending them what Lucas described as a "biker gang feel."[89]

Before its cancellation, The Clone Wars was to depict the Siege of Mandalore. Writer Henry Gilroy said Mandalore was likely occupied by the Republic before it turned into the Empire. He speculated due to Mandalore's importance, it was likely a "soft occupation," with a new Mandalorian puppet leader ruling the planet.[39] Star Wars Rebels has since confirmed that the Mandalorian named Bo-Katan Kryze became Regent of Mandalore following the Siege, and was deposed by Emperor Palpatine following the end of the Republic.[15] The siege was later depicted in The Clone Wars revival on Disney+.[90]

Mandalorian warrior

Mandalorian warriors, also known as Mandalorian commandos, were soldiers of Mandalorian warrior clans that were active throughout Mandalorian cultural history. Many Mandalorian warriors were part of Mandalorian organizations such as Death Watch, Mandalorian Protectors, Nite Owls, and the Tribe, where they served as saboteurs, assassins, infantry, and bounty hunters.

Description

Mandalorian warriors,[1] also referred to as Mandalorian commandos,[9] were Mandalorian soldiers that embodied Mandalore's warrior heritage and served warrior-centric Mandalorian clans.[16] They used various types of Mandalorian armor, including Mandalorian rally master armor. Mandalorian warriors used the military rank of rally master,[19] and the group Death Watch used a rank insignia.[20] Jaig Eyes were a combat honor that adorned[21] the helmets of Mandalorian warriors.[22]

Those who did not accept were exiled to Concordia, and by the time of the Clone Wars were thought to have died out. In reality, however, warriors were still active and grouped into the organization known as Death Watch, which was secretly led by Pre Vizsla.[14] Death Watch was active throughout the Clone Wars, eventually joining the Shadow Collective led by Darth Maul and overthrew the New Mandalorian government and civil war erupted once again.[2] After the rise of the Galactic Empire, Imperial Super Commandos were formed and served the Empire,[23] while other Mandalorian warriors were active in their respective clans. The Mandalorian Protectors remained active in the Concord Dawn system.[24] After the Great Purge against the Mandalorians and the fall of the Empire, at least one group of Mandalorian warriors known as the Tribe operated in secrecy.[25]

  • AT-DP: Originally intended to safeguard Imperial assets on occupied worlds, the AT-DP is now deployed into battle to subdue Rebel infantry. This walker is well armored, but still susceptible to anti-vehicle fire.
  • AT-MP: Recently entered into service, the AT-MP walker fires devastating salvos of missiles, but the machine itself is clumsy to move and easily overwhelmed by infantry and volley of fire tactics. (Takes out shields)
  • AT-MP Mark III: This specialized modification of the standard AT-MP was designed to take out shields with a devastating volley of missiles. It differs from the standard unit in that it will target turrets in its its way, but unfortunately, has similarly light armor, so protect it.
  • AT-ST Mark III: The AT-ST Mark III's experimental armor provides more speed and durability than a standard AT-ST. Mounted with twin heavy laser cannons, piloted by a veteran crew, it excels against most targets.
  • Elite AT-AT: A modified AT-AT with thicker armor plating and heavier laser cannons, this AT-AT is piloted by an elite vehicle crew pulled from the best in the Empire.
  • Imperial Dropship Transport: Not much inspires fear in Rebel troops more than the sight of a fleet of IDTs on the horizon, chock full of Stormtroopers. This ship can sway the tide of battle by inseting troops within an enemy base.
  • LIN Demolitionmech: This mine-laying droid has been programmed to ignore turrets and resoruces, deploying explosive charges point-blank against soft targets such as the Squad Center, Barracks, and Armory. Special armor protets the droid from its own attack, but it is still vulnerable from enemy fire.
  • Mobile Heavy Cannon: "Appropriated" from the Umbaran militia, these advanced weapons platforms have recently entered field testing. The UMHC takes on turrets, is powerful against vehicles and turrets, but very slow due to its massive size.
  • MTV-7 light vehicle: More stable but less protected than an AT-ST, the MTV-7 is quick and well suited to attack resource buildings. Upon deployment, the pilot targets the closest turret with an ion blast, greatly reducing its damage for 15 seconds.
  • T-5 Deliverance: Offering both protection and maneuverability, this Lambda-class shuttle was repurposed to swiftly dispatch medical and repair payloads in the field. Each deployment provides a lasting sustain to nearby allied units.
  • TIE Advanced: A newly developed advanced prototype of the TIE Starfighter line, these starships are equipped with highly sophisticated target tracking system, making them extremely useful against shield of equal level.
  • TIE Striker: A streamlined version of the TIE fighter, the TIE Striker is primarily designed for operations within a planet's atmosphere. The attached proton bomb launcher is particularly effective against vehicle untis, dealing heavy damage over a large area.
  • TX-225: Designed for heavy transport, the TX-225 assault tank is slow but devastating versus defensive structures. Thick armor plates offer greater protection, but are still vulnerable to Rocket Turrets. (Stolen by Rebels)
  • VT-49 Decimator: Receiving command of a VT-49 Decimator is considered an honor in the Imperial Navy. Used as a raiding vessel, this ship drops firebombs which burn a moderate area. It is most effective against infantry.

Chapter 2: Under the Twin Suns: Completed

  • Sneak attack on Saponza's homestead
    • After upgrading and expanding their forces, mercenary groups attacked the homestead. Although the attack was repulsed, several of the mercenaries escaped, with rebel scouts sent in to locate their base of operations. Several mercenary bases were discovered, and rebel forces were sent to destroy them, proving successful. Pierce congratulated the rebels, and informed them that she would let them know if any more are found. After some time expanding their operations, Pierce informed the rebels that they had discovered another, larger, mercenary base. The rebels soon attacked, and Saponza used the Strix to strafe ground targets, resulting in a rebel victory.

Chapter 3: The Sacred Waters: Completed

  • Campaign against the Tusken Raiders
    • After reinforcing their defenses and being proud of their decisions to join the Alliance, the rebels were attacked by a group of Tusken Raiders who were eventually defeated. The Alliance decided to counterattack, discovering a moisture farm that had been taken over by the Raiders. Prior to the assault, Saponza stated that the Tusken Raider believed that all water was sacred and that it belonged to them. After the rebel attack, Saponza expressed that he hoped that the farmers could rest in peace. After building up their forces, the rebels received news from their scouts that they found the village the Tusken Raiders seemed to be operating from. After taking an attack force, the rebels defeated the Tusken Raiders.

Chapter 4: The Jundland General: Completed

  • The Jundland General's campaign
    • Sometime after the Alliance's campaign against the Tusken Raiders, their headquarters were attacked by a large force of Tuskens. After the attack was repelled, Saponza noted that the Tuskens had a better strategy, and began wondering what their goal was. The escalating aggression forced the rebels to build and upgrade their forces. Once scouts uncovered a Tusken enclave and the rebels sent their forces to attack, Saponza quickly noticed that the layout of the enclave was drastically different than the others, noting that the Sand People were never that tactful. Colonel Pierce was able to reinforce the rebels with Wookiee Warriors. During the ensuing engagement, Saponza used the Strix to attack targets. Immediately following the rebels' return to their base they were instantly attacked by a large group of Tusken Raiders, avoiding detection to get close enough for a surprise attack. Saponza order his troops to get to their turrets and repel the attack. Following the intense battle, Saponza spoke with his partner, stating that the Sand People were never that smart. Worried, Saponza headed to the cantina in Mos Espa to gather information about Tusken activity while Saponza's partner continued to expand and upgrade their headquarters. Saponza returned, having learned that the rebel forces were fighting against a Tusken Raider known as the "Jundland General" operating from a village in the Jundland Wastes. Before Saponza could finish however, the rebel base was attacked by a large Tusken Raider force. Rebel forces prevailed and survived the attack. While mustering up their forces to defeat the "Jundland General", Saponza told his partner that they should ensure that their base is upgraded to deter further attacks. After the rebels attacked a fortified enclave, Saponza noticed that there were no women or children, only a death trap, stressing that the "Jundland General" needed to be defeated soon. Colonel Pierce informed the rebels that they needed to further expand and upgrade their forces to counter not only smugglers, cartels, or syndicates, but the Galactic Empire as well, stating that anti-Imperial operations would begin soon. Once the "Jundland General"'s base of operations was discovered, Saponza's rebels launch an attack on the fortification. Pierce stated that if the "Jundland General" was finally defeated, then many innocent lives would be saved. The rebels would emerge victorious, with Saponza stating that the battle reminded him of the Clone Wars.[1]

Chapter 5: Servant of Two Masters: Completed

  • Operations against Tatooine mercenaries
    • After more upgrades to the rebel base of operations, Pierce contacted Saponza and his partner with an interesting proposition by Jabba the Hutt. The proposition was that if the rebels eliminated several mercenaries, he would trade valuable intelligence on the Empire. Saponza was skeptical of the proposition but agreed regardless. The rebels were then contacted by Bib Fortuna, Jabba's majordomo, and contact between the Alliance and the Hutt clan, and received orders from him to destroy a mercenary base, a task which the rebels accomplished. Fortuna contacted them again, elaborating that Jabba is in several disputes with mercenary groups, including the group that the rebels had defeated. After defeating more mercenary groups on behalf of Jabba, Fortuna stated that at least one of the groups had strong influences throughout the galaxy. After defeating another mercenary group, Pierce contacted the rebels and stated that they no longer needed to be in the arrangement as they had intercepted a transmission revealing the location of an Imperial base. After the arrangement was broken, the rebel base was attacked by mercenaries, though the attack was fought off. After building up their defenses, the rebels attacked an Imperial base to retrieve sensitive information. After another upgrade to the rebels' base, Pierce contacted the rebels and informed them that the mercenary groups were working with the Empire, and that the rebels would continue to work with Jabba's forces to destroy those mercenary groups. After defeating more mercenary bases, Pierce informed the rebels that the final mercenary base had been discovered, though she expressed caution in dealing with the Hutts. After the final mercenary base was destroyed, the rebel base was attacked by Hutt forces, revealing that Jabba had double-crossed them. The Alliance responded by attacking a Hutt smuggling base and confiscating its resources to send a strong message. After the Alliance victory, Fortuna contacted the rebels stating that his master would not forget their treachery.

Chapter 6: Alliance of Convenience: Expansion required

  • Mission to aid Kekit's clan
    • Sometime following the operations against mercenary forces, Colonel Pierce saw an opportune moment to ally rebel forces on Tatooine with Kekit and Kekit's clan by aiding them in return for the Jawas aiding the rebels navigate the treacherous Tatooine landscape. Following the crash, Colonel Pierce sent an emergency message to Saponza and his partner, detailing that the freighter split in orbit, crashed, and that they located part of the wreckage. Pierce warned the Saponza's group as there was evidence that they were not the first to arrive at the site. After rebel forces secured the site from the Empire, Pierce stated that the supplies were not at the crash site, and that it worried her that the Empire had gotten there so quickly. Pierce stated that since the starship broke up into two pieces, the needed supplies must be in the other crash site. When rebel forces arrived at the other half, a mercenary group had established a base around the site and secured it. Following the engagement, a rebel trooper reported to Pierce that the supplies were not located in the crash site. Pierce ordered Saponza's partner and their group to track and locate the missing cargo. Rebel soldier were able to track the shipment to a stronghold, and were able to recover the cargo after successfully attacking it, which would allow the rebels to expand the scope of their operations throughout the sector. The supplies that were recovered included equipment necessary for the constant upgrades of the rebel base as well as vehicles that survived the crash.
  • Bombing of the Imperial Listening Station: Agent, a bomber squadron on patrol of the sector located this Empire listening post. They need you to give them targets.
    • During a sector patrol, a bomber squadron discovered an Imperial listening post on Tatooine. Colonel Pierce contacted Saponza's partner to select bombing targets and the base was destroyed.
  • Operations against the Empire
    • Soon after the listening post was destroyed, the rebel base was attacked by the Empire, particularly vehicles. After the attack was fought off, Colonel Pierce stated that the Empire had mastered vehicle tactics, and that they would need to catch up. The rebels soon counterattacked against an Imperial outpost, with Colonel Pierce supplying T2-B Repulsor Tanks and Armored Assault Tanks to the rebel force. After the Imperial outpost was destroyed, the rebel force attacked more bases, using AT-AP Walkers, speeder bikes, Juggernauts. The operations were successful, and the Empire launched another failed attack on the rebel base. The Alliance counterattacked, and after their victory, began to plot the downfall of the Empire on Tatooine.

Chapter 11: Battle for Tatooine

Campaign: Dandoran Conflict

  • Dandoran Campaign
    • Colonel Jennica Pierce: "Agent, have you ever heard of the planet Dandoran? It's on the neighboring system, Doran. Until very recently, the planet was not on the radar of anybody. But for some reason, the Empire grew their presence drastically here. Rebel Command wants to know why. They asked me to investigate, so I would like you to start disturbing the Imperial over there and see what you can discover. As soon as you get into the system, I'll transmit the coordinates of a number of Imperial garrisons. Work on destroying them while you see what you can discover."
    • Once the rebels arrive on Dandoran, Colonel Pierce states: "Phase one of the Dandoran Campaign will focus on eliminating various Imperial garrisons on the western continent of the planet."
    • Rebels attack and destroy a small Imperial outpost.
    • After returning to attack a larger and heavily walled and fortified Imperial base, Colonel Pierce states: "Agent, I pulled in some favors and I got you access to the Vanguard Soldiers. They excel at demolishing walls and a distance and will be invaluable in defeating the fortified bases." Rebels attack the base.
    • After attacking and destroying three more outposts on Dandoran, the Imperials launch an offensive on Tatooine.
    • In another attack, Han Solo participates. After multiple attacks, the Imperial launch a second offensive on Tatooine. More battles continue on Dandoran, and the Imperials launch a third and final offensive near the end of the campaign.

Campaign: Escalation on Dandoran

  • Escalation on Dandoran
    • The Galactic Civil War on Dandoran escalates. The Alliance to Restore the Republic participates in multiple battles against the Galactic Empire. Imperial presence is surging throughout the planet, rebels are receiving reports of Imperial uncovering valuable resources. Multiple battles on Dandoran. Imperial offensive on Tatooine. Multiple battles again, and then there's a second Imperial offensive. Another round of battles on Dandoran, third Imperial offensive. Dandoran battles, fourth Imperial offensive. Many Dandoran battles, fifth Imperial offensive. At this time, Colonel Pierce states that Imperials are becoming desperate, and to continue operations. After some more battles, conflict draws to a close.

Campaign: The Sickness: Completed

  • Undead Troopers invasion: Completed
    • Pierce received intelligence that uncovered a lone Imperial outpost on Dandoran that was apparently overlooked. Pierce orders Saponza and his partner to go and destroy it. After arriving at the Imperial outpost, the rebels investigated, and engaged the Imperial outpost. Following the engagement, the rebels went over communications logs, which indicated that they were spying on a nearby garrison. Finding a lead, Saponza and his rebels follow it to the remote Imperial garrison, which had taken critical damage, and attempted to directly contact it, to no avail. Soon after, the rebels received an unknown response, with Saponza attempting to determine who sent it. With rebel troops deployed, a skirmish broke out between rebel forces and seemingly undead stormtroopers. Following the end of the skirmish, Saponza exclaimed that he had no idea what those creatures were, referring them to "Death Troopers". Pierce contacted the rebels to inform them that they should evacuate immediately and that she had discovered more details about the situation. Once the rebels had returned to their headquarters on Tatooine, their scouts discovered that Death Troopers were on Tatooine. Pierce stated that the Death Troopers must have stowed away on the transports. Saponza took the opportunity to state that he had been modifying several HWK-290 freighters to carry firebombs, which should be advantageous on the undead infantry. After repelling the attack, it was discovered that the Empire had maintained a research facility on Dandoran. After regrouping, the rebels were ordered on Dandoran once again to handle an outbreak, engaging the undead in an Imperial base. After the undead were defeated, Saponza stated that the plague had spread beyond the Empire's reach, and that they should keep looking for more bases. After clearing the undead on more bases, the rebels were recalled to Tatooine for a briefing. While rebuilding their forces, the rebels were forced to defend their base from another undead attack, eventually defeating it. After the attack, the rebels were informed that the undead had continued to spread on Tatooine, forcing the rebels to destroy more contaminated bases. Containment of the plague proved to be a challenge, as rebel forces would destroy contaminated bases while also being forced to defend their own. During the conflict, Tusken Raider enclaves were also contaminated. Following the containment on Tatooine, the rebels deployed to Dandoran, and identified several locations which may be the source of the Death Troopers. After the destruction of locations, it was made known to the rebels that the virus at the research facility could not be contained, regardless, the rebels were to continue to destroy the virus, with Pierce stating that the Imperials were reckless in their scientific project. Pierce later briefed the rebels that they had discovered the purpose of the virus, which was from a virus codenamed Blackwing, created by science and alchemy in an effort to produce immortality. Saponza saw it ludacris that Sith scientists created the virus on purpose. The rebels were to continue containing the virus on Dandoran, searching and destroying contaminated Imperial bases. Sometime later, Johhar Kessen informed the rebels that a Rebel Strike Team recently carried out an attack on a nearby Imperial Weapons Laboratory and that during the chaos, a vault containing the Blackwing virus was exposed to the facility. Communications were maintained, but an unexpected breach cut off any transmissions. As rebels engaged the Imperials in the facility, a rebel trooper informed Kessen that the facility was being secured just as the transmission was cut by an undead trooper. Kessen informed the rebels that latest reports sighted a group of Undead Troopers heading towards the base, although they were repelled and destroyed, though Kessen warned that the undead would return soon and in greater numbers, and that it would continue to do so until the infection had completely run its course.

The Lawless

Ghosts of Dathomir

The Toydarian kingdom was a feudal monarchy that controlled the Hutt Space planet of Toydaria, and was surprisingly autonomous despite its long history with the Hutt Clan. During the Clone Wars, the kingdom was led by King Katuunko, and allied itself with the Galactic Republic, and during the rule of the Galactic Empire, the Imperial presence on the world was limited. Abiding by the ancient feudal system of the kingdom, the Toydarian royalty ruled the lands, with the royal Riar government led by Baron Reeol owning the city of Riar.

The king was counseled on affairs of the state by the Toydarian Ministry Council, composed of several ministers. The Toydarian Guard was in charge of protecting the king, and had detachments in cities across Toydaria, such as the Toydor Royal Guard Officers and the Riar Royal Guard and its Riar Royal Guard Officers. The Toydarian traffic control strictly regulated planetary air traffic.
