- "I shall reassert our position of neutrality."
"The talk of an idealist."
"No, those are the words of a pacifist, and a people who have chosen nonviolent action." - ―Duchess Satine Kryze and Vice Chair Mas Amedda, arguing the political stance of the New Mandalorians
The New Mandalorians was a Mandalorian pacifist movement that controlled the Mandalore system in the Outer Rim from 40 BBY to 19 BBY. Following the annihilation of Mandalore's biodiversity due to countless conflicts, the New Mandalorians sought change founded on the virtues of pacifism, neutrality, and nonviolence, which placed them at odds with the Old Mandalorians, who fought to maintain the militaristic ways of their ancestors. After a brutal civil war, they governed Mandalore and slowly began to rebuild under the leadership of Duchess Satine Kryze. After two decades of rule, however, the New Mandalorians were dissolved following a coup in 19 BBY by Death Watch, a traditionalist terrorist cell.
History
Mandalorian Civil War
- "Master Qui-Gon and I spent a year on Mandalore, protecting the duchess from insurgents who had threatened her world. They sent bounty hunters after us. We were always on the run, living hand to mouth, never sure what the next day would bring."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi
Sometime between 41 BBY and 39 BBY,[6] a civil war erupted for control of the Outer Rim world of Mandalore. It was fought between competing elements in Mandalorian society; the New Mandalorians pacifist movement, led by Satine Kryze of House Kryze[5], and martial traditionalists, who wished to return to their warrior past.
During the war, the Jedi Order sent Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who spent a year on Mandalore to protect the Duchess from insurgent bounty hunters, forcing them to live on the run. At the end of the civil war, Kryze ruled Mandalore while the traditionalists were exiled to Concordia.[5]
Death Watch insurgency
Though the exiled clans were presumed to have died out on Concordia, the survivors had in fact regrouped and formed the Death Watch splinter group, who opposed the pacifistic Mandalorian government and desired to restore Mandalore's war-like culture. They were secretly led by Concordia's Governor, Pre Vizsla,[1] and Duchess Satine's own sister, Bo-Katan Kryze.[3]

- ↑ Author Kiersten White established that the plot of the novel Padawan was explicitly written to convey that Obi-Wan Kenobi had not met Satine Kryze, which "Voyage of Temptation" establishes was during the Mandalorian Civil War. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of the novel to 41 BBY. Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy further states that the mission to Pijal, dated to 40 BBY by Timelines, occurred after the civil war. Therefore, the war must have taken place between 41 BBY and 40 BBY.
