Plot summary

A dangerous rendezvous

As he flies off with Starlight Squadron, Luke Skywalker is thanked by Wedge Antilles for his help. Evaan Verlaine notes that while they have lost contact with other rebel divisions, they must continue on. The pilots express their sadness over losing Shara, but Luke tries to raise their spirits, telling them that once the mission is done, he's heading to the planet Jekara, where intelligence suggests Han Solo may be.

The Starlight Squadron drops out of hyperspace near Ab Dalis, a planet with a long history of tectonic instability due to a past orbital impact. Despite the danger, it serves as a rendezvous point for the rebels. They receive a choppy transmission from the Eleventh Division, which is under siege and facing total destruction.

On the planet's surface, rebel troops are being overwhelmed by several AT-ATs. They are relieved when Starlight Squadron arrives, but are dismayed to see only six X-Wings and a single A-Wing. They soon learn, however, that the pilots include the legendary Wedge and Luke Skywalker, heroes of Yavin.

A desperate plan

Aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer, Ultima II, Admiral Kalaxo is briefed on the newly arrived rebel fighters. He believes the battle is going well and decides against notifying Commander Zahra, expecting to destroy the rebels quickly.

Wedge tells the other rebel pilots that the Imperial Star Destroyer's energy shield is preventing their ground transports from escaping. He concludes they're on their own and must buy time by focusing on the ground targets. The TIE fighters swarm the X-Wings, and a massive battle erupts in the sky.

On the ground, a rebel soldier from the geological survey team tells her Colonel that she knows of a location that, if hit with enough force, could cause a massive geological event. The Colonel instructs her to send the coordinates to the pilots.

The rebel pilots receive coordinates pointing to a mountain directly beneath the Star Destroyer. Admiral Kalaxo, believing his victory is imminent, instructs his Lieutenant to tell Commander Zahra that the rebels' Eleventh Division has been eradicated.

The rebel pilots lose contact with the ground troops, but decide to trust their judgment. An astromech droid scan reveals a small cave-like formation at the designated coordinates. The pilots realize that this is a target only Luke could hit. Luke agrees to take the shot, but R2-D2 takes damage from a TIE fighter, causing Luke to momentarily hesitate. He remembers his famous trench run on the Death Star. He fires, but misses. The other pilots successfully hit the target, creating a massive explosion that bursts through the Star Destroyer, destroying it.

With the planet freed, Mon Mothma appears on a rebel ship, confirming that the rebels are no longer trapped. Luke quickly excuses himself, telling the group he's heading to Jekara, where Leia and the others need his help.

On Jekara, aboard Crimson Dawn's flagship, the Vermillion, Leia, Lando, and Chewbacca are approached by Boba Fett. Nearby, Darth Vader and a squad of snowtroopers are also approaching, with Vader seemingly interested in getting Han Solo himself.
