Magma, or lava, was dangerous fluid, molten rock. Often emanating from volcanoes,^[1] lava was extremely hot at thousands of degrees,^[2] but when it stopped flowing, the substance cooled and hardened, eventually forming obsidian^[3] or dark lava sand.^[4]
