Plot summary
Imprisoned in jail-like cells within the Kezarat Colony, the rebel heroes are growing restless. Chewbacca, in particular, is unhappy and convinces the guards to take him to Lando, who can translate for him. Lando tells the others that Chewbacca believes he can get them home, explaining that the Wookiee is an incredibly gifted mechanic and engineer. Captain Blythe listens as Chewbacca explains his theory that the Nihil had path engines. Blythe dismisses this, saying they don't have any now, but Lando smiles and reveals that the rebels do.
Blythe agrees to let the rebels try to retrieve the path engine but refuses to risk any of his own people. He points to an old, rundown ship they can use for the mission. Blythe then pulls Leia aside, explaining that as fellow leaders, they need to have a private conversation. He tells her that they are the first new people to appear in No-Space in about 35 years and asks her what the galaxy is like now. Leia explains that the galaxy is a cruel Empire under the control of Emperor Palpatine, the Jedi Order is gone, and anyone who speaks out is executed.
The rebels get the old ship running, much to Blythe's surprise. He then tells Leia that she must stay behind to ensure the others return. The rest of the rebels fly toward the platform, noting that they have their weapons back, but the ship has only one engine, almost no maneuverability, and its weapons are offline. As they approach, they see the kill droids have fully destroyed their ship and claimed the path engine.
Luke Skywalker tells the others he will distract the kill droids while Chewbacca retrieves the path engine, explaining that Forvan was nice enough to lend him his jetpack. As Luke flies down to the platform, only a few kill droids react to his presence. Chewbacca quickly takes the path engine, and Luke decides that now that he's properly focused, he can defeat the droids and retrieve his sacred Jedi text. As he attempts to get his book from the platform's edge, the kill droids attack him.
