A Trick of the Mind

"A Trick of the Mind" is a story in the canon one-shot comic Revelations (2023) 1. The story was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Andrea Di Vito and Rachelle Rosenberg, and published by Marvel Comics on December 20 2023.

Plot summary

"The Jedi Mind Trick? How did you think that would ever work?"
―Dengar to Advocate Salli Georgio[3]

On the planet Samaria, in the Imperial Court of Criminal Justice, Advocate Salli Georgio questions whether the Magistrate is familiar with the Jedi Mind Trick. Georgio explains the trick to allow the Jedi to command a sentient being to do what the Jedi wishes. The Magistrate questions the relevance of the old religion, which Georgio swiftly explains. Defending the bounty hunter, Dengar, Georgio explains that he experienced the effects of a Jedi Mind Trick while in the Black-Market District on D'Assem. While allegedly under the influence of the Mind Trick, Dengar was forced to take control of a speeder and cause significant vehicular damage to distract the law enforcements of D'Assem for the Jedi's benefit. The Magistrate is not fully convinced of the alleged claims of Georgio explaining that the official legal position of the Empire states that the Jedi no longer exist, and that such an event could not possibly have occurred. In response to this, the Magistrate sentences Dengar to a fine of fifty thousand credits and sixty days of hard labor in the Orgonium mines. Before being transferred to the mines, Dengar discusses the ridiculous choice of using the Jedi Mind Trick to get him out of hard labor. Georgio defends her decision as the best choice from a situation where Dengar was incredibly guilty. Angry with this, Dengar attempts to attack Georgio, but is stopped by the bailiff and removed from the room. Georgio begins to receive a communication from Lando Calrissian asking for her out-of-the-box thinking that she specialises in.
