Plot summary
Attack on Jedha
On the snowy, dusty plains of Jedha, a rebel fighter ducked behind his fallen snowspeeder. Imperial forces were closing in. He and his companions, Ubin Des and Chulco Gi, were running out of time.
Suddenly, a Jedi on a dark steed appeared, his blue lightsaber ignited. The Jedi announced he was looking for Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Chulco, relieved, told the Jedi he had found them.
The Jedi called out to Han Solo aboard the Millennium Falcon, telling him to prepare for a quick escape. The rebels scrambled aboard, just barely making it off the planet.
A new destination
The Falcon flew to NaJedha, a world of beautiful pink and purple crystals. As they approached, one of the rebels, Luke, noticed a nearby planet with a massive chunk missing. The broken planet rained rocks down onto NaJedha's surface.
Chulco introduced himself to the Jedi as an aspirant to the Disciples of the Whills. He explained that he had been in the middle of a sacred meditation that required a month-long stay in the temple, which the Empire had since destroyed. He said the planet was dying and that the Force was sickened here. Despite the devastation, Chulco maintained his faith that everything happened for a reason.
Leia stepped forward to introduce herself, but Ubin already knew her name. Ubin revealed she had been a part of the Rebel Alliance until recently. She was at Yavin and would have been at the Battle of Scarif if she hadn't been in the sickbay. After the devastation of Jedha, she returned home and joined the reformed Partisans. Ubin stated that the Empire had almost completely destroyed Jedha and now came back to sift through its remains, an act she described as offensive as "corpse robbing."
Leia explained that the rebels must be united, but Ubin said the Partisans weren't interested in joining the Alliance. They fight their own war, she stated, now more than ever. Saw Gerrera may be gone, she said, but they operate in his shadow.
Leia countered that they were all under the shadow of the Empire now.
The Empire's new mission
Aboard a Star Destroyer, a technician informed Commander Befa that Commander Kanchar was arriving for an inspection. Moments later, Kanchar arrived with Queen Trios of Shu-Torun. She introduced herself and offered her experience in mineral extraction to the Empire.
The commander insisted on her help, stating that Jedha was a rich source of kyber crystals but that the shipments had stopped. An officer then showed a small crate of the precious crystals. When Befa asked where the rest were, he was told that was all there was. Kanchar then announced he was taking command of the Star Destroyer and that Befa would be redeployed to a requisition post. When Befa asked where, Kanchar killed him.
Queen Trios commented that after being threatened by Darth Vader, everything else seemed "a little underwhelming." Kanchar stated that they must retrieve the kyber crystals and destroy the rebels to finish what Grand Moff Tarkin started.
The Millennium Falcon later landed on Jedha, this time piloted by Ubin and Chulco. They were immediately captured by partisan soldiers and brought before Benthic "Two Tubes."
