Star Wars 53 is the fifty-third issue of the comic book series Star Wars. It was written by Kieron Gillen, illustrated by Salvador Larroca, and published by Marvel Comics on September 5, 2018.

Opening crawl

HOPE DIES
Part IV 
Queen Trios of Shu-Torun, instrumental in outfitting the
Rebel Alliance's fleet, has betrayed her new allies by
sabotaging their cruisers' vital systems, leaving them
helpless, and selling the rebels out to the evil Galactic
Empire.

Although Trios has evaded capture, Princess Leia has
discovered that the devious queen's sabotage did not
disable the fail-safes of their hangar bay doors, which
will unseal should any fighter broadcast a rebel signal.

With comm systems down across the fleet, Han Solo
was forced to fly through the battle, dodging Star
Destroyer and Darth Vader himself, to deliver the intel
to the other pilots. Now, Luke Skywalker and ROGUE
SQUADRON are ready to take the fight back to the
Empire....

Plot summary

In the midst of a fierce battle, Leia watches as another rebel cruiser is destroyed. She asks General Draven for an update, who tells her that they are trying to reboot the fleet by slicing into Queen Trios's files. Leia, frustrated, urges him to work faster. After Draven reports that he has found an override code but that it is located aboard Darth Vader's flagship, the Executor, Leia devises a strategy to impersonate Trios and retrieve it herself. Mon Mothma objects to the risk, but Leia insists that it is her responsibility after vouching for Trios.

On her ship, Leia, disguised as Queen Trios, hails the Executor. Meanwhile, Han Solo, whose Millennium Falcon is heavily damaged and on fire from a prolonged pursuit by Vader, crashes the ship into a nearby rebel cruiser's hangar bay. He demands a new ship to get back into the fight.

Leia's ruse works, and she and her crew are cleared to land in Vader's private dock. Leia and her team are greeted by an Imperial officer and a protocol droid, who instantly realize that Leia is an impostor. Leia and her team, who had developed an anti-Vader strategy, blast the officer and make a run for it. They look out a nearby hangar window and see another rebel cruiser explode as Vader's TIE Fighter screams toward them. Vader emerges from his vehicle, determined to find them.
