Plot summary
On a planet in the Vagadarr system, a hooded Garro threatens Luke, asking if he was trained by "the Jedi who came before"—Yoda. Garro claims to have been Yoda’s master and hurls a shard of blue rock at Luke, injuring him. Garro guesses that Yoda told Luke the planet had magic and hidden power, and he blames Yoda for ruining everything. As Luke falls, small mountain creatures emerge from the ground.
The mountain's fall
We then flash back to Yoda’s story. The mountain, now a massive, walking creature, is about to crush Yoda with its foot, but the Jedi Master does not move. In awe, the children watch as Yoda holds back an entire mountain. The Jedi text explains that a true Jedi is one with the Force, capable of anything the mind can imagine. Yoda reveals that the planet is not dead, only sleeping, and they must help it wake.
The Jedi text explains that the mountains once protected their world until people, driven by fear and greed, butchered them and drove them into the ground. As Yoda speaks, more mountains emerge and attack the main one. The warrior children, intent on killing him, are stopped by Yoda, who says, "There will be no killing, only learning, and the lessons will be painful."
Garro's betrayal
Back in the present, Garro tells a wounded Luke that Yoda never returned, just like everyone else who ever left. He explains that Yoda's arrival inspired the children to build ships and leave, but as they separated from the planet, their stonepower vanished and the world began to die. Garro tells Luke he needs his life force to "finish the war."
Luke, siding with the stones, says he is on their side, but Garro stabs him in the back with a shard of blue rock. The story then cuts to Yoda's time, where he uses the Force to push away the rampaging children. Yoda tells young Garro to embrace his own teachings and live in peace with the stones.
A sacrifice and a lesson
Returning to the present, Luke tells Garro to look around, stating that the war is already over. Yoda's story concludes with him convincing Garro to drop his spear, allowing the mountains to walk away together. However, back in the present, Garro continues to fight with the shards of stone. Garro, saying the only thing he was ever good at was "walking away," leaves Luke to his fate. Garro walks to the shell of a collapsed mountain, a blue light appears, and he enters it.
The Jedi text ends with Obi-Wan Kenobi's final thoughts: Yoda returned to his own world, but not before teaching Kenobi his story and emphasizing that a Jedi must humble himself to be powerful. Luke closes the book, telling the small rock creatures to lead the way to the heart of the mountain. He says that Garro's sacrifice started a new path, and he will do what he can to finish it.
In a final scene, somewhere far away, Yoda senses that Luke will soon be ready, and when the time comes, he will find him.
