Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a paperback junior novelization of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. It was released on May 4, 2017, in honor of the 40th anniversary of A New Hope's theatrical release.[1]

The book updates the Star Wars Legends Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back junior novelization, which was written by Ryder Windham. Egmont editor Emil Fortune has edited the book to make it fit with the current canon.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back states that Luke Skywalker hadn't heard Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice since the Battle of Yavin. However, he hears from Kenobi in The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure,[3] Choose Your Destiny: A Luke & Leia Adventure,[4] Star Wars (2015) 1,[5] and Star Wars (2015) 14,[6] which are set between these two events.
