Executive officer[1] (shortened to XO),[7] also known as First Officer,[8] which also saw a capitalization of first officer,[9] was a position that signified an individual as the second-in-command of a starship.[8] It existed within the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy,[1] the Chiss Ascendancy,[10] the New Republic,[3] the Resistance,[1] and the First Order.[4] When a starship's captain was busy, it was the task of the First Officer to take over the bridge.[8]

History

Tagge Corporation

The position was used in the Tagge Corporation, where it was held by Lady Domina Tagge, the head of the company.[6]

Galactic Empire

Nymos Lyle served as the executive officer to Admiral Rae Sloane on board the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Vigilance during the Battle of Endor.[1]

New Republic

Lieutenant Jensen Corbyt served as the executive officer to Captain Hayle on board a Defender-class cruiser, the Vesper.[3] Vic Hawkins was executive officer to General Hera Syndulla aboard Home One.[11]

Resistance

During the First Order-Resistance War, Captain Idrosen Gawat served as Admiral Gial Ackbar's executive aboard the Raddus.[12] He was killed along with most of the Resistance High Command during the Battle of Oetchi.[13]
