- "We spared your life after you tried to take mine. And you curse me?"
- ―Boba Fett, to a Night Wind assassin
E chu ta was a rude Huttese phrase[2] used to curse someone.[1]
History
- "E chu ta!"
"How rude!" - ―E-3PO and C-3PO
In 3 ABY, C-3PO encountered fellow protocol droid E-3PO while at Cloud City on Bespin. The former commented how he found it nice to see a "familiar face", only for the latter to respond with "e chu ta" and walk away, to which C-3PO exclaimed was rude.[3]
Behind the scenes
The phrase "e chu ta" was created by sound designer Ben Burtt as a Huttese expletive for the 1980 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. In the Star Wars Legends continuity reference book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, Burrt noted that it is not really appropriate to translate.[4] The canon junior novel The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?, an adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back wherein the narrator speaks directly to the reader, states that "It is absolutely not appropriate to translate. Maybe when you're older."[2]
