Plot summary

On a ship in the rebel fleet's fourth division, R2-D2 works to repair the ancient talky droid. When it reboots, the droid acts erratically and attacks both C-3PO and R2-D2. Just as it seems they're doomed, Lobot enters the room and appears to communicate with the droid without speaking.

C-3PO tells the droid to prepare the Trawak language module for immediate download, but the droid objects. It reasons that the module is the only thing that makes it valuable and refuses to hand it over in the interest of self-preservation.

Lando steps in to negotiate. He offers the droid a new job as a translator instead of taking its language module. The other rebels are amazed that Lobot can communicate without talking. Lando explains that Lobot's cybernetic implants were an Imperial creation, intended for battle calculations. While Lobot has since broken free of his programming, he's mostly machine now and Lando still seeks a way to reverse the impacts. Leia tries to convince the language droid that it's on the right side, but it replies that it's only on its own side. Meanwhile, Fortuna takes a call from Lando and explains that Jabba would pay a handsome price for the new rebel codes.

Leia briefs Starlight Squadron, telling them that their astromechs have been programmed with the most likely rendezvous coordinates for the other rebel cells. These locations were secret fallback spots entrusted only to command-level individuals. Leia asks Kes Dameron if he's ready for his assignment, and he tells her he needs a moment to say goodbye to Shara. They share a kiss.

When the squadron of X-Wings arrives at the location near Felucia, they find only debris from the Sixth division, indicating a trap. A number of attacking imperial probe droids successfully eject most of the astromechs from their X-Wings.

The talky droid uses Lobot as a processor and estimates he will expire in a few hours, stating that they should prepare a replacement hybrid soon. Lando and Kes Dameron have a tense standoff over what to do, but Kes ultimately withdraws his blaster.

Continuity

In one panel, Kes Dameron refers to Leia Organa as commander rather than her correct rank of general.
