My deepest Apologizes

I do apologize, and you're right about my statements being out-of-place. It was a bit ranting, I might add, and for that I am genuinely sorry. I've just been to many wiki's where there are many admins that find no sensibility, and I mistakenly assumed that Wookieepedia had fallen to the same. That being said, I too of all people should've looked at your rules closer (the Jurassic Park wiki isn't quite as large, so we don't have as many protocols there). Next time I'll pay more attention to your policies. Thanks for the reassurance. --John Alfred Hammond, CEO (talk) 14:20, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

FA/GA/CA Main Page randomizers

I've noticed over the years that Wookieepedia:Featured articles/Random and its cousins can cause small headaches to maintain because they do not show up on "what links here", meaning that when a status article gets moved, the randomizer is often left with a redirect link, a redlink (if the redirect is deleted), or even a link to an entirely different article (if that article is moved over top of the redirect). It also means that review panel members have to manage two separate lists of articles. I recently discovered that the Lua extension can actually fetch the wikitext of another page and perform string operations on that wikitext. With that in mind, I wrote a Lua module to replace the randomizers tonight. You can see it at w:c:masterjonathan:Module:Test. The module directly fetches the appropriate page (Wookieepedia:Featured articles, etc.) and parses it for links, retaining any italics or quotes surrounding the link, then selects one of those links at random and returns that link for display.

Two changes would be needed to WP:FA and its cousins: first, <!--Start--> and <!--End--> comments would be added to the top and bottom of the list, respectively, to tell the module what portion of the page to parse; and second, a template would be created for linking to pages that should not show up in the randomizers (e.g. the year articles linked under "events" and anything that hasn't been featured on the Main Page yet). This template would be as simple as {{Link|title|text}}, which would be a direct replacement for [[title|text]], and could be easily converted to a regular link once that article has been featured on the Main Page (side note: that might actually be something I could automate as part of my bot's daily tasks; I'll have to look into it to see how feasible it is). Using the template would prevent the module from recognizing the link, since it searches for the [[...]] syntax. Is this something the review panels would be interested in? • Possibly, to answer your question. I don't think it's fair that I just say yes or no on my own. It's something we would have to discuss, so probably something best left for our next meetings. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 17:30, January 30, 2015 (UTC)
    • I figured you would want to discuss it at the meetings, so that's fair. I was mainly just looking for a general feeling right now, not a final approval. I do pay attention to the meeting pages and logs, so I'll check those out when available. Depending on the dates, I might be able to attend the meetings to answer any questions, but I can't guarantee that at the moment. —MJ— Holocomm 21:43, January 30, 2015 (UTC)

I created the Felicity Jones page and I'm pretty new to editing this site. It's been fun looking at the page keep changing. There was a message mentioning to add an image. 17 conjecture removal

Hi Tope, just wondering why you removed the conjecture tag from the 17 article? You said in the summary "An article title isn't conjectural if a source calls a subject by that name. In this case, 17 is his official designation." However he is never referred to in-game at all, and the 17 title comes from the subtitles in which he is given "Trooper 17". The other trooper, named in-game as Three-Five, has "Trooper 35" in the subtitles. I'm just completely confused, since that article had to be moved from 35 to Three-Five due to this fact, with a callsign tag? Thanks for helping to clear this up! Manoof (talk) 07:33, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

  • I'm going to try and keep this explanation as simplified as I can. Conjecture tags are only for articles in which we're making up a name for something when that subject has no official name in any source. This is an example of a conjectural clone trooper. In the case of Trooper 17, the game's subtitles are just as valid as any dialogue. If the game's subtitles call him "17," then that's his official designation. I don't know what the situation is exactly with Trooper 35, but it looks like the game calls him both "Three-Five" and "35"? If so, we just have to make a call on what we think is his most formal, official title. But for 17, it looks like he's only ever called "17," so that's his name. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 14:36, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
  • And I should add that clone trooper articles don't need any sort of header tag, such as the callsign tag, if the article title is their numerical designation. The numerical designation is basically their birth name. It's only when a clone trooper is known by an actual nickname, such as Hawkeye, that we give them the nickname tag. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 14:39, March 17, 2015 (UTC)
    • Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks heaps! Manoof (talk) 06:15, March 23, 2015 (UTC)

Sandage Jr.

Maybe this is a weird question, for you anyways, but I was still looking for an image that could be used for Wan Sandage Jr. that's from Kinect Star Wars. The closest I've gotten is this image from a 720p video on YouTube. I still don't know anyone who can capture 360 screenshots. Either way, this is the closest you can really get to the character, as he doesn't actually appear in any cutscenes and has no real close ups. I was wondering if this could feasibly fill the objection or if I should keep looking for better screenshots, if any are available. --Clonehunter(Report your W.M.D.) 16:33, April 11, 2015 (UTC)

Grass article

Say, Toprawa, I was editing the grass article just now and I noticed that it didn't have an Eras tag on it, so I added one. However, it got me wondering why the article didn't have one when Eras was added by bot to all in-universe articles back in May of last year. So I checked and I saw that you had removed it. Just wondering if there was a reason why, or if it was just an oversight. ProfessorTofty (talk) 02:30, May 3, 2015 (UTC)

  • I probably removed it thinking that it shouldn't have one because it's a species article, forgetting that it needed to have the template for the Legends designation. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 07:38, May 3, 2015 (UTC)

The Heart of the Jedi

Hello, Tope. I wanted to ask you opinion about the way we should integrate (or avoid to integrate) material from The Heart of the Jedi into our Legends articles. Technically speaking, the story hasn't been released officially; Flint simply allowed Joe Bongiorno to publish it, but Lucasfilm was not involved, unlike what happened with SkyeWalkers: A Clone Wars Story. However, Flint stated that he edited the story to be compatible with the "modern-day" EU. For new characters like Taj Vallerian, the modus operandi is obvious enough: since he never appeared anywhere else, we'd just create a page for him. But what about the new information regarding the Imperial Senate, for example? Should it appear in the Senate article's BTS? Should we use the "cutstart-cutend" templates? Should we just integrate it anyway, given that the Legends continuity is closed off? --LelalMekha (talk) 22:21, May 15, 2015 (UTC)

  • Our policy on this kind of thing can be found in the last paragraph of the BTS section in the Layout Guide here. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:24, May 15, 2015 (UTC)

Obi-Wan's third lightsaber/Canon

Could you restore this page? Since this page was deleted, we have decided to create pages for individuals lightsabers, even if they recieve no name in canon. - AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 22:43, May 28, 2015 (UTC)

    • Obi-Wan Kenobi's third lightsaber/Canon. - AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 20:41, May 29, 2015 (UTC)
      • Just recreate it. I'm not seeing any source verifiability in the article's original version, nor do I see any obvious indication that this was Obi-Wan's third lightsaber in NuCanon. You'll have to independently verify this yourself. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 20:45, May 29, 2015 (UTC)
        • So we still have to have a canon name? Strange, I thought there was an exception for lightsabers. I guess I could always remove the link on the page. - AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 20:46, May 29, 2015 (UTC)
          • There is an exception for lightsabers / personal weapons. Toprawa, what are you getting at here? ProfessorTofty (talk) 20:48, May 29, 2015 (UTC)
            • You need to provide a source and referencing verifying that "Obi-Wan Kenobi's third lightsaber" is actually a thing in Canon. How do we know he used three lightsabers in Canon? I don't see Canon articles for his first two lightsabers. There was no referencing to verify this subject's legitimacy in the original deleted version, which is why I'm not restoring it. You need to recreate the article and prove this. And I know my name is Toprawa. You don't need to bold it. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 20:59, May 29, 2015 (UTC)
  • Bolding of usernames in forum / talk page posts has been standard on a lot of the forums I frequent. It's something I've always done for a long time and I think if you check my other forum posts, you'll find it's something I've done consistently here too. Wookieepedian of the Month

Hello there Toprawa; I just had a question concerning Wookieepedian of the Month. Last month I nominated Richterbelmont10 for WotM, and while he did receive some supporters (no opposers either), he did not obtain enough support to win. What I'm curious about is if I am permitted to nominate him once again for this month. The only reason he didn't win last month was due to a lack of supporters (possibly people just forgot about WotM), so I'd very much like to re-nominate him if that's all right. Thanks. Sources for Stuntmen

Most stuntmen aren't going to bother putting up a bibliography due to wanting to live a private life and we have used sources from all of the above links before because all the pictures shown are given at the conventions themselves and signed.

If they sign their signature of one of the various pictures, that is in fact evidence. I have eight sources indicating this and if there's more than two of the same thing that is proof enough.--Gunman6 (talk) 21:09, June 20, 2015 (UTC)

That's an exception to the rule as he signed the wrong autograph as is clearly worded there and this Malcolm Weaver page has evidence of him on-set filming the original Star Wars. Actually look at the sources for once.--Gunman6 (talk) 21:17, June 20, 2015 (UTC)

Spy droid redirect

Hi there Tope. I'm contacting you in regards to your edit a few days ago on the Spy droid page, in which you changed the revert to Espionage droid. I realize that current policy is to redirect to a Legends page, however I feel this page should be an exception to this rule. The 9D9-s54 Spy Droid was originally just known as the "Spy droid," and was called as such on the Databank and the episode guide for The Siege of Lothal; it wasn't until the Star Wars Rebels Facebook page was updated that we learned the actual model of the spy droid. However, it's exact model is not used in the Databank, and its page is just called "Spy droid." Because of this, I believe the Spy droid page should redirect to 9D9-s54 Spy Droid rather than Espionage droid. Cevan (talk) 18:56, July 2, 2015 (UTC)

  • The Databank refers to most subjects by their most basic, familiar name (X-wing starfighter, A-wing fighter, etc.), which can apply to both Canon and Legends. If we allow one subjective exception to the rule, then we have to allow them all. The only proper thing to do is be fair and follow the redirect policy. Tank

Hiya, I was wondering why you felt Tank should cover the character mentioned in passing in A New Hope? I believe the page should be moved to Tank (individual) and Tank (vehicle) be moved back there to prepare for a Tank/Canon article. --Alientraveller (talk) 17:21, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

  • Item 5 here: "Precedence shall be granted to subjects that can be considered original namesakes for other subjects with competing titles (example: Dagger and all other subjects named Dagger), although this exception may be waived if the namesake's title competes with a major subject (example: Tydirium and Tydirium (ore))." I don't remember if this was discussed with other users or not, but a decision was made to grant the character Tank precedence because he's a film subject and therefore the more likely search candidate. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 17:26, July 12, 2015 (UTC)
    • That's understandable, not many go here to look up tanks (especially since SW tanks don't look much like the real thing). I just worry it might cause an issue when the bots move everything before TFA comes out, but then it might be ok if Tank/Canon still links to Tank (vehicle) and vice versa. --Alientraveller (talk) 17:41, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

Inter Wiki Project

Hey, I messaged Darth Culator with this a couple of days ago, but he seems to be out of town. Seeing as you are active I am hoping you can look this over and respond. I am just going to copy and paste my message to him here.:

Hello, I am hoping the Wookieepedia can help with a project we are working on. All I ask is that you and the community hear me out.

The Elder scrolls wiki is trying to get wiki's more involved in each others well being. Most wikis dont involve themselves with each other unless they are "siblings". I believe that working together would not only benefit the fans and guest to wiki's, but it would benefit the wikis as well.

Right now, there are two wiki's I believe this one could become more involved with. The first is the the Aliens Species Wiki (the link is to the Star wars category), and Wikianswers. Wikianswers has made it clear that if a wiki is to come in and help answers questions related to them, that at the end of the question they can place a link relevant to the question that leads to their wiki.

Elder scrolls is also willing to share your wiki's FB page (should you have one) and we will also be willing to help you guys should you need it.

I know that due to this wiki's size, you already have a lot on your plate, but I ask that you guys consider helping with this project. If you have any questions just let me know. Thank you, and happy editing.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 00:01, July 17, 2015 (UTC)

TCW articles' dates

Hey, Tope. In regards to the issues you brought up with the changes that I had made to some of the TCW articles, I'd like to encourage you to take a close look at some of the other TCW-related GAs and FAs. A lot of them still simply use either Star Wars Annual 2011 or The Essential Reader's Companion to source their dates, which, as you pointed out, is incorrect. In fact, the reason I'd made those edits in the first place was because I'd thought the ERC was an acceptable reference material, since it was used in so many status articles. Just from a cursory glance, I can point you at: Nuvo Vindi, Shiv (clone trooper), Battle of the Phu system, Kite, Laudable, Mag (clone trooper), Slick, CC-3714, CT-782, and many others. In fact, you could just go to WP:TCW's status article pages and just go down the list. If we are striving to achieve the most accurate referencing in our status articles, then I hope you'll bring the above articles up on the agenda for the future INQ and AC meetings. Thanks. Bulk page import and minor CSS

Hello!

I've been doing some work on the wiki for the upcoming "Star Wars: Uprising" game. I'm currently in the middle of making several templates for the equipment and abilities. But there are a few things I need help with:

1. I hacked the assets from a beta version of the game. I then wrote a program to extract the weapon data and export everything to wiki syntax (using the templates I'm writing). It's using the XML import/export syntax for bulk edits. Everything is pre-categorized and formatted correctly. However, only an admin can do a bulk edit :/ so would you be willing to help me out? When it's ready, I will send you the file for review. All the pages are under the super walkthrough portal and under a sub-page named "Equipment".

2. I am trying my best to use the new infobox that is optimized for SEOs. But it is very difficult to customize the look and feel of the box. I've been trying to make the stats use the same color scheme as the game, but I can't do it with the new infobox's default setup.

Would it be possible for you to add a few lines of CSS to help me? I would ensure it only affects what I'm working on. I would hard-code it to only work below a unique class namespace. Once again, I would let you review it first.

3. Similar to #2, would it be possible for you to add a few Star Wars specific fonts to your wiki? Once again, I want the stats portion to look and feel like the in-game stats page.

4. Would you allow both #2 and #3 on the Mobile skin's CSS? It's a mobile game, so it's reasonable to assume most views would be from mobile devices.

I understand this is a lot for someone to ask, especially before that person has made 20 edits. So here are a few of my qualifications to hopefully make you feel a little more at ease:

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Notability policy - Planets

Hi Toprawa. While looking at Forum:CT Archive/Modernizing Layout Guide Sources section, I clicked through your link to what looks to be your draft for a policy on not creating articles for planets based on system entries in the Essential Atlas index. Your proposal makes sense to me. One additional element that you may like to clarify at the same time relates to the "planet" field in Species infoboxes. The Species template currently describes this as the "planet" that a species is from. I think it makes sense that where the Atlas has created a system, but not a planet, it should be listed in the Infoboxes (See Ma'alkerrite ape-man). That practice currently occurs, even if the policy on it is ambiguous. Something you may wish to consider as a footnote to your policy proposal (or the template descriptor could simply be changed without a CT). --Eyrezer (talk) 06:51, September 12, 2015 (UTC)

  • Roger that. I'll take a look at it. Thanks. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 07:05, September 12, 2015 (UTC)
    • Regarding this, I didn't add anything to the proposal just because I'm not sure this really needs to be codified. I absolutely agree that this practice should be done, and since no one is objecting to it, we're perfectly safe continuing to do it. If this becomes an issue for some reason, we can always go back and create a policy. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:56, September 15, 2015 (UTC)

Wizard World Nashville

Toprawa - this weekend I will be attending Wizard World Nashville and will have the opportunity to meet a number of people, including possibly a couple involved with Star Wars, such as Jim Cummings, voice of Hondo Ohnaka and Michael Golden, who worked on a couple of the comics. Wikia wants to have a social media push for this and so I was wondering if you would be willing to enable for blogs and possibly videos for this event. I would, of course, keep any material focused on Star Wars. If you have any questions, feel free to let either me or Brandon Rhea know, as he's involved with the coordination for this. Expanding people stubs

I was thinking of expanding some people stubs (Charles Lippincott), Bunny Alsup, etc.) by mentioning them as prominent interview subjects mentioned in the acknowledgements of Empire Building: The Remarkable Real Life Story of Star Wars. Concept cel uploads

Hi.

Star Wars Sourcebooks on Facebook is currently uploading several images of the concept cels from Star Wars: Droids and possibly Ewoks that were formerly on eBay. Can you upload them if they haven't already been uploaded? I'd do the uploads myself, but let's just say that for some really odd reason, even though I gave a valid email account on my preferences setting, it's acting as though I don't actually have a valid email, and as such, with no verified email address that it recognizes, I can't use the Add Image option.

The links can be found here:

Weedle McHairybug (talk) 20:24, November 2, 2015 (UTC)

  • There isn't necessarily any reason to upload the images onto Wookieepedia, assuming everything important has been uploaded to Star Wars Sourcebooks. Just citing the information to those Facebook pages would suffice, though it wouldn't be a bad idea for one of our people to save the images as a safe measure in case that information is ever lost. That being said, you should bring this matter to Green tentacle, the article's original author and current manager, rather than attempting to update the article yourself. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:12, November 2, 2015 (UTC)
  • It so happens that I am both a Wookieepedian AND one of the co-admins of Star Wars Sourcebooks, and we are trying to save them all before they're all gone. --LelalMekha (talk) 22:15, November 2, 2015 (UTC)

Greetings Toprawa and Ralltiir, I was just wondering if now is time to revert back the wikia's wordmark since the 10th Anniversary of this Wikia has been long over, or is this going be done when the year turns? - Alex2424121 (talk) 17:15, November 5, 2015 (UTC)

Recent change on the page Liberator Cruiser

Hey Toprawa and Ralltiir, I saw that you've undone the changes I recently made to the page Liberator Cruiser. I included a longer explanation as to why I made those changes on the talk page of that article. But I'll just try to explain the matter in short here:

The numbers in Star Wars: Rebellion reflect "attack strength", not the actual number of cannons. Every single one of these values is divisible by ten, which might lead one to the conclusion that 10 attack strength reflect 1 cannon. This seems to become more likely when you compare the "attack strength" values of other ships, such as the Mon Calamari Cruiser. It has a 360 turbolaser attack strength and 200 ion cannon attack strength. If you divide those by ten, you get 36 turbolasers and 20 ion cannons, which would be comparable to the weaponry of MC80 variants in the Legends canon.

So all in all I feel it would be misleading to leave the current numbers in the article, because that way the Liberator would vastly outclass even Imperial star destroyers. We could simply change the stats from "cannons" to "attack strength". We could leave it ambiguous and just state it was armed with turbolasers and ion cannons, and add further explanation in the Behind the Scenes section. Or divide the numbers by ten, which I feel would be our best canonical guess.

What do you think? --PisauraXTX (talk) 11:42, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

Reverts on Rainboh

I genuinely do not understand why my edits on Rainboh, which complied fully with the issues raised in the "update info" tag, were reverted. • In a nutshell, this is what needs to be done for this update:
    • Rainboh system must be added to infobox, fully sourced
    • Rainboh system must be added to Description section, fully sourced
    • Rainboh system may be added to intro at writer's preference but must not be sourced; site policy dictates that introductions are not sourced Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:56, December 17, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Bloom fruit

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I looked into a bit more, and I think I moved it due a misunderstanding on my part when I skimmed over the item's description (which lowercased fruit, but didn't necessarily use the full name). I've moved it back to Bloom Fruit, as I do believe that's what it was actually titled in the game. StarsiderSWG (talk) 19:52, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Email correspondence

If you have any better ideas regarding sourcing that email correspondence, be my guest, because I REALLY need to use them as citations for the stuff on those articles. They deleted the x1 entries for the email earlier specifically because I didn't have photographic evidence, well I got you guys photographic evidence, and I expect that people stick to their word (ie, if they say they want photographic evidence of an email, and I upload it, they honor their end of the bargain by keeping it in). Weedle McHairybug (talk) 23:36, January 15, 2016 (UTC)

  • There are several examples of how to create citation pages for content taken from email correspondences. That being said, Ansel Hsiao's word is not canon. His illustrations are. Anything he says regarding what he intended to purvey outside of that is BTS material at best. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:42, January 15, 2016 (UTC)
    • Fine, I've whited out any instances of email addresses on my and his end. I'll add them back in, and this time, PLEASE try to keep them in, at the very least the entries to the BTS sections. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 23:53, January 15, 2016 (UTC)

    • Very well. I'm sorry for not being an expert in creative infoboxes. • They will indeed be moved eventually. The process for creating canon pages with Legends counterparts (or, in this case, moving a canon page to a new title that has a Legends counterpart) is to create the page with /Canon. Then, an admin + bot will make the appropriate changes en masse. There are a bunch of other pages that need to go through this process as well, so I'd imagine we'll see some movement on that soon. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 14:22, March 25, 2016 (UTC)

Although there will obviously be a Darth Vader #24, we typically only create articles for comic issues once there's a solicitation for it. Cargamalis

Hey Toprawa! I looked at the Galactic Gazetteer article and could't see Cargamalis being identified as a planet anywhere - the dots on the map there represent systems. Could you be so kind as to confirm it for me? Thanks! Imperators II(Talk) 05:02, July 3, 2016 (UTC)

  • The dots on the GG map are intended to represent both planets and systems. The entire text is based on this basic understanding. I assume you're intending to suggest the Atlas way of doing things, where we don't assume anything unless something is confirmed to exist in text. But that really only applies to Atlas-exclusive maps (and, arguably, Warfare) because the authors stated for that specific text that they named systems for whatever its most well-known celestial object was. There's really nothing to suggest that we need to apply this retroactively, especially in the case of something like GG, where its stated purpose is to map out this region's worlds.
