"This next one goes out to the Mud-Jumpers of the 224th, slugging it out on Mimban. Keep your heads down and your seals tight, boys."
―The host of the Grand Army of the Republic broadcast — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

The 224th was a unit of clone troopers within the Grand Army of the Republic at the beginning of the Clone Wars. Among their ranks were troopers known as the Mud Jumpers.[1] In 22 BBY,[2] the 224th was involved in a battle on the planet Mimban.[1]

During the battle, the MudJumpers of the 224th received a shout-out from the Bettie-Bot host of a musical program on the HoloNet's Grand Army of the Republic broadcast channel. The shout-out, dedicating a song to the group, was heard by other clone troopersEcho, Hevy, Fives, Nub, Droidbait and Cutup—stationed at a Republic listening post on the moon of the planet Rishi.[1]

Behind the scenes

The 224th was first mentioned in "Rookies,"[1] the fifth episode of Season One of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was released on October 24, 2008.[3]

  2. The Essential Reader's Companion dates the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film and The Clone Wars: Secret Missions 4: Guardians of the Chiss Key to 22 BBY. In addition, in Guardians of the Chiss Key, Count Dooku mentions a recent run-in with a group of Weequay pirates, which refers to the events of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "The Gungan General." Since StarWars.com Star Wars: The Clone Wars Chronological Episode Order on StarWars.com (backup link) places "Rookies" between The Clone Wars film and "The Gungan General," it can be concluded that "Rookies" and the Battle of Mimban take place in 22 BBY.
