"For many of the Star Hopper Padawans, their action on Trymant IV was their first real mission in the galaxy. The Star Hopper was traveling through hyperspace when Emergences began threatening systems following the Great Disaster. One such Emergence threatened to strike the most populated city in the Trymant system, raining fiery debris from hyperspace onto the helpless population below. The Star Hopper was the only Jedi vessel close enough to offer assistance, and under the leadership of Masters Yoda and Buck, the Padawans raced to the planet surface to save as many as they could."
―Harli Cogra, Chronicles of the Jedi[7]

The Trymant system was located in Subterrel sector of the Outer Rim Territories and the Western Reaches, within grid square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid. It contained the planet Trymant IV, which was orbited by the moons Praknat 3, Korbatal, Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, and Trymant III. Around 247 BBY, the Elders of the Path religious group settled on Trymant IV.

In 232 BBY, hyperspace debris from an Emergence of the Great Hyperspace Disaster impacted several Trymant system celestial bodies. All of Trymant IV's moons were destroyed, with Praknat 3 being struck with debris directly and changing the system's gravitational balance. As a result, Trymant IV moved closer to the second sun, which resulted in its aboveground water evaporating and its terrain turning into inhospitable desert. By 3 ABY, records of the Trymant system disaster remained accessible in some databases.

Description

"…the closest moon, a small, uninhabited one called Praknat 3, took a direct hit from the main hull of the ship, and the impact misaligned the gravitational balance of the whole system. Trymant IV tilted closer to the second sun than it's ever been, and that in turn vaporized all aboveground sources of water."
―Kantam Sy[4]

Trymant IV's location in the Outer Rim Territories

The Trymant system was a star system located in the Subterrel sector of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Western Reaches regions of the galaxy,[2] situated in grid square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The system had two suns, including the system's second sun, and was connected to at least one hyperspace route.[4]

A verdant planet in the system—Trymant IV—had several moons, including Praknat 3, its closest orbit,[4] along with Korbatal, Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, and Trymant III,[6] all of which were destroyed in 232 BBY.[5][6] The gravitational balance of the Trymant system was misaligned upon their destruction, resulting in Trymant IV tilting closer to the system's second sun and its terrain turning to desert.[4] Its subsectors—sector 17, sector 18, and sector 19—were within range of the Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha monitoring satellite stationed in the same system.[3]

Impending disaster

"Uh…captain?"
"Hm?"
"I think we need to—"
"Initiate the planetwide evacuation procedure! And alert the Starlight!"
"…And uh, get us out of here!"

Hyperspace debris impacted the Trymant system during an Emergence of the Great Hyperspace Disaster.

During the High Republic Era, following many years of searching for a suitable planet to call home,[4] the Council of Elders[8] leading the nomadic Elders of the Path religious group settled in Bralanak City on Trymant IV[7] around 237 BBY.[9]

In 232 BBY, Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro orchestrated a collision between the Byne Guild freighter Legacy Run and an obstacle that resulted in the Great Hyperspace Disaster, which spurred Emergences—pieces of hyperspace debris—emerging from space and impacting celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.[10] When the Nihil marauders' captive and hyperspace savant Mari San Tekka determined one such Emergence would threaten several locations in the Trymant system in the near future,[11] Ro and Nihil Storm Zagyar decided to kidnap Elder Tromak off Trymant IV before its destruction, due to his knowledge of where to find part of an ancient relic the Eye sought.[12] Not long after, Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha detected the debris entering the system, issuing a planetwide evacuation procedure and alerting the Starlight Beacon space station of the situation. Starlight Beacon relayed the message to the Padawan Academic Cruiser Star Hopper, which rushed to the threatened world[3] as a Republic rescue fleet was assembled.[13]

Falling from the sky

Farzala Tarabal: "Looks like this is another delayed fallout reaction from the Hyperspace Disaster at Hetzal!"
Yoda: "Bibs and Lula?"
Bibs: "Um! Several large chunks of flaming debris are on track to make a direct hit with Bralanak City."
Lula Talisola: "Bralanak City is the most densely populated area on Trymant IV! Which is the most densely populated planet in the system!"
―Farzala Tarabal, Yoda, Bibs, and Lula Talisola aboard the Star Hopper as it approached Trymant IV[3]

As flaming debris impacted Bralanak City, Tromak met with several Nihil sent by Ro, intending to flee aboard[3] the Spider Cruiser[13] Squall Spider willingly. Two of the group's young DisciplesZeen Mrala and Krix Kamerat—tried to escape with Tromak, though the Nihil rebuffed them. Meanwhile, the Star Hopper's crew disembarked on Trymant IV, with Jedi Masters Yoda and Torban Buck leaving to handle falling debris while the ship's PadawansLula Talisola,[3] Farzala Tarabal,[13] Qort, and Bibs—mounted rescue speeders to help with smaller debris and ushering civilians to safety.[3]

Not long later, the Padawans and Nihil present began fighting. In the melee, Mrala helped Talisola slow falling debris, leaving Kamerat to look on in betrayal, as their group's beliefs forbade usage of the Force. With the help of Buck and Yoda, the Nihil present were quickly defeated, though Tromak and Kamerat managed to escape with Ro aboard the Squall Spider. Jedi Vectors assembled a blockade in the skies above Trymant IV to prevent the Nihil from escaping the system. When the Squall Spider attacked a Republic medical frigate, the Vectors moved to assist it and left a gap in the blockade, allowing the Nihil to escape. Ultimately, the Elders of the Path members were evacuated from Trymant IV, and the Jedi left the planet with them.[13] Ro's rescue of Tromak off Trymant IV eventually enabled him to acquire the artifact he sought from the Stygmarn system.[14]

Wider impacts

"As part of our new entrepreneurial endeavor, we have set up a fund to help the orphaned children of Korbatal—a small moon in the Trymant system that has been very sadly destroyed."
"Those poor orphan children must be very old. How sad."
"Mmmmmmmm."
―Zuckuss and Parazeen Parapa[15]

In the Emergence, Trymant IV's moons were destroyed.[5][6] Due to Praknat 3's destruction, the Trymant system's gravitational balance shifted, moving the planet closer to the system's second sun than ever before and wiping out all aboveground water sources and vegetation. When Republic drill freighters' efforts to find underground water sources proved unsuccessful, the Elders of the Path who returned to Trymant IV struggled to survive in the ruins of their compound on the now-desert world. The Jedi Order kept a record of the Jedi mission to the Trymant system, which Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh reviewed. After the Republic and the Jedi discovered the Nihil were responsible for the Great Hyperspace Disaster—which had affected Trymant IV and many other celestial bodies—both groups resolved to work together to end their threat to the galaxy.[4]

In 231 BBY,[16] Jedi Master Kantam Sy, Talisola, and Mrala traveled to Trymant IV to investigate the Nihil and were shocked at the ecological changes. Sy explained to them how the Emergence had affected the Trymant system, and after the group briefly met with Elder Barbatash, they left the world.[4] The following year, the Nihil destroyed Starlight Beacon and formed the Occlusion Zone—an area of space containing ten sectors in the Outer Rim's Frontier—behind a barrier preventing hyperspace travel.[12] Weeks later, in 229 BBY,[17] the Vurk Jedi Master Harli Cogra wrote a book titled Chronicles of the Jedi, which detailed the Jedi of the High Republic Era. In the book's first chapter, Cogra included a map depicting Trymant IV in the Occlusion Zone;[7] however, in reality, the world fell outside its borders.[18] Cogra also mentioned the planet several times in the fifth chapter.[7]

By the time of the Galactic Empire, records of the Trymant system disaster remained accessible in some databases. At one point[15] by 3 ABY,[19] journalist intern Parazeen Parapa learned of the destruction of the Trymant system's moons while interviewing the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM and wrote his findings into a Galactic Digest magazine article, which was later read and annotated by Chief Editor Droid TK-7 of the organization's Culture Desk.[15]

Inhabitants

"Is it still…can people live here?"
"They're trying. But I'm sure it hasn't been easy. I'd heard the Republic sent a fleet of drill freighters to search for underground water sources rumored to run beneath the lower valley area, south of here. But I had no idea how bad it was."
―Lula Talisola and Kantam Sy about Trymant IV, a year after the Emergence[4]

During the High Republic Era, Trymant IV was the most populated planet in the Trymant system, and its most inhabited city was Bralanak City. The city's population consisted of multiple species,[3] and its residents spoke Galactic Basic. The nomadic Elders of the Path settled on Trymant IV[4] around 237 BBY.[9] Trymant IV's population struggled to survive after the Emergence disaster due to a lack of supplies and resources within the planet's now-barren landscape.[4]

The Trymant system made its first full appearance in the first issue of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures.

The Trymant system was first mentioned in "STET!," a short story written by Daniel José Older that was published in the anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back[15] and released on November 10, 2020.[21] The system made its first full appearance in the first issue of the 2021 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures,[3] released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. The issue was written by Older, illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, and published by IDW Publishing on February 3, 2021. The 2022 reference book The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume I by Kristin Baver included several of Tolibao's sketches and uncolored linework for the system's appearances in the series.[22] The 2023 reference book Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi by Cole Horton includes an in-universe map depicting Trymant IV—and therefore the Trymant system—within the original borders of the Occlusion Zone, which also situated it in the Galactic Frontier.[7] However, the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, written by Pablo Hidalgo with map contributions by Jason Fry and Christopher Ibbitt, situates the Trymant IV outside of the Occlusion Zone. This article assumes that the latter and more recent source is correct.[18]

On November 17, 2020, a StarWars.com article announcing The High Republic Adventures included a preview containing uncolored pages from the first issue, marking the system's first visual appearance.[23] In an uncolored preview of The High Republic Adventures 1 released in The High Republic Free Digital Sampler[20] on December 12 of the same year,[24] the system was mentioned as both the "Trymant system" and the "Trymantian system."[20] The final comic adjusted the latter mention to "Trymant system."[3]

"STET!" indicated that several of the system's moons had been destroyed in the Great Hyperspace Disaster.[15] Older's comic story "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric," which was published in the sixth issue of IDW Publishing's 2020 Star Wars Adventures series[11] on July 7, 2021,[25] marked the debut of the Trymant system celestial bodies of Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, and Trymant III.[11] Older confirmed his intent for the Trymant system celestial bodies mentioned in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric"—which included Korbatal, Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, and Trymant III—to be Trymant IV's moons and specified they were the ones mentioned in "STET!" as destroyed.[6]
