- "The Jedi have been our sworn enemy for many ages, yes, but were they our sworn enemies when they saved so many of us during the disaster?"
- ―Barbatash
Barbatash was an individual who, by the time of the Night of Sorrow[3] in 382 BBY,[4] was an Elder in the Path of the Open Hand cult. During the Night of Sorrow, Barbatash escaped from the Path compound on Dalna in a shuttle.[3] By 231 BBY,[5] Barbatash was an Elder in the community known as the Elders of the Path,[1] a group that was a descendant of the Path of the Open Hand.[6] By this time he was considered an ancient being, keeping his community alive until finding them a safe haven on the planet Trymant IV. Towering over humans, Barbatash possessed four long-lashed eyes and long, shaggy arms on which he leaned forward. After Trymant IV was reduced to an inhospitable desert following an Emergence of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, Barbatash remained on the planet, though the community's numbers and resources continued to dwindle.[1]
