Korbatal was a moon of the planet Trymant IV, a world in the Outer Rim and Western Reaches regions of the galaxy. In 232 BBY, the moon was destroyed by an Emergence—a portion of hyperspace debris produced from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter as a result of the Great Hyperspace Disaster.

By 3 ABY, the intern journalist Parazeen Parapa learned of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons while interviewing the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM, who claimed that they were seeking donations to establish an aid fund for Korbatal's orphaned children. Parapa wrote his findings—including information about the moon's destruction centuries prior—in an article he was composing for the Galactic Digest magazine, which was read and annotated by Chief Editor Droid TK-7 of the publication's Culture Desk.

Description

Korbatal was a moon of^[4] the Outer Rim planet^[6] Trymant IV,^[5] which itself orbited the Trymant system's binary star.^[7] As a Trymant system moon, Korbatal was situated in the Western Reaches region's^[2] Subterrel sector and in square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.^[3] One of Trymant IV's other moons—Praknat 3—occupied the closest orbit to the planet compared to the world's other moons,^[7] which included Korbatal.^[5]

History

In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster spurred Emergences—hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter that entered realspace and struck celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.^[9] One captive of the Nihil marauders—the hyperspace savant Mari San Tekka—determined one such Emergence would threaten several locations in the Trymant system, including Korbatal, in the near future. Doctor Kisma Uttersond reported the information to the Nihil's leader Marchion Ro, prompting the latter to travel to the Trymant system before the event had occurred.^[8]

Ultimately, Korbatal was destroyed after being struck by an Emergence,^[4] and records of the disaster in the system were kept by the Jedi Order.^[7] By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, records of the disaster in the Trymant system remained accessible in certain databases. At one point^[4] by 3 ABY,^[10] intern journalist Parazeen Parapa learned of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons while interviewing the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM. In the interview, Zuckuss claimed that he and his partner were establishing a fund to help the orphaned children of Korbatal in the aftermath of the moon's destruction, hiding their true intentions of taking the money given to the endeavor for themselves instead.^[4]

However, Parapa listlessly pointed out that the children must have been very old by that point, as it had been a long time since the disaster in the Trymant system. Afterward, Parapa included his findings in an article he was writing for the Galactic Digest magazine, noting details on how records of the Great Hyperspace Disaster describing Korbatal's fate could be found through a quick database search. Chief Editor Droid TK-7 of the publication's Culture Desk later read and annotated the work, initially commenting that Zuckuss and 4-LOM's endeavor appeared noble before realizing that Korbatal had been destroyed for centuries.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Korbatal was first mentioned in "STET!," a short story written by Daniel José Older that was published in the 2020 From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back anthology.^[4] The 2023 reference book Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi by Cole Horton includes an in-universe map depicting Trymant IV—and therefore Korbatal—within the original borders of the Occlusion Zone, which also situated it in the Galactic Frontier.^[11] However, the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, written by Pablo Hidalgo with map contributions by Jason Fry and Christopher Ibbitt, situates the Trymant IV outside of the Occlusion Zone. This article assumes that the latter and more recent source is correct.^[12]
