- "Well out here on the frontier, only way we survive is by sticking together."
"That's right." - ―Doma Dendra and Turgle, to Cal Kestis
The Galactic Frontier,[3] also known as the Republic Frontier,[8] was a region in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy[9] designated by the Galactic Republic during the High Republic Era as being far away from the Core Worlds, necessitating the deployment of explorers—such as prospectors, Pathfinders,[1] and Jedi, who often worked alongside Pathfinders[10]—to map hyperspace routes, lay the groundwork of a galactic communications network,[1] and unite the galaxy[10] under the Republic.[11] Life on the frontier was often filled with hardship and scarceness.[12] The period of exploration of the Frontier carried on for part of the High Republic Era until the region was more settled,[10] enabling the Jedi Order, the Republic,[1] and the Republic's citizens to move into the region.[13]
Under the Supreme Chancellery of Lina Soh, the Republic made great strides move into the Frontier bring its help into the Outer Rim[11] and strengthen Republic influence in the region.[1] Indeed, historian Beaumont Kin also pointed out how, over its history, the Republic displayed an interest in the Frontier in the name of expanding the government's own borders.[13] The Jedi Order, too, hoped to expand into the Frontier to spread the light side of the Force.[1] As such, the frontier was home to the Starlight Beacon,[14] a space station that acted as a beacon, sending out a signal that guided travelers and boosted communication networks in the Outer Rim.[11] During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts was founded by a group of like-minded scientists and adventurers that were interested in researching and cataloging the myriad of new species that were discovered on the Frontier worlds.[15] The Frontier also contained the Kazlin system and its sector,[3] as well as the planet Shuraden.[8] While it was a Republic designated area of space,[1] the Galactic Frontier terminology survived into Imperial Era[6] and New Republic Era.[13]
