Taz Molkar was a moon of the planet Trymant IV, a world in the Outer Rim and Western Reaches regions of the galaxy. During the Great Hyperspace Disaster in 232 BBY, the moon was destroyed by an Emergence—a collection of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter that emerged into realspace. By 3 ABY, records of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons—including Taz Molkar—were accessible in certain databases.
Description
Taz Molkar was a moon of[5] the Outer Rim planet[6] Trymant IV,[5] which itself orbited the Trymant system's binary star.[7] As a Trymant system moon, Taz Molkar was situated in the Western Reaches region's[2] Subterrel sector and in square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[3] One of Trymant IV's other moons—Praknat 3—occupied the closest orbit to the planet compared to the world's other moons,[7] which included Taz Molkar.[5]
History
- "Debris approaches the Trymant system! Celestial bodies in the danger zone include Korbatal, Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, Trymant III, and Trymant IV."
- ―Mari San Tekka
Mari San Tekka (pictured) warned the Nihil of an impending Emergence, indicating that Taz Molkar was in danger.
In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster spurred Emergences—hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter that started entering realspace and striking celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.[8] The hyperspace savant Mari San Tekka—who was being kept captive by Nihil marauders—determined one such Emergence would impact several locations in the Trymant system, including Taz Molkar, in the near future. Doctor Kisma Uttersond relayed the warning to the Nihil's leader Marchion Ro, prompting the latter to depart for the Trymant system before the Emergences struck.[4]
Ultimately, Taz Molkar[5] was struck by an Emergence[9] and destroyed.[5] In the aftermath, information detailing the disaster in the system was stored by the Jedi Order.[7] By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, records of the incident in the Trymant system remained accessible in certain databases. At one point[9] by 3 ABY,[10] intern journalist Parazeen Parapa reviewed the event's files and learned of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons while interviewing the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM. Parapa included his findings in an article he was writing for the Galactic Digest magazine, which was later read and annotated by Chief Editor Droid TK-7 of the publication's Culture Desk.[9]
Behind the scenes
Taz Molkar was first named in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric."
Taz Molkar was first mentioned by name in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric," a secondary comic story published in the sixth issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures anthology comic-book series. The story was written by Daniel José Older and the comic issue was published by IDW Publishing[4] on July 7, 2021.[11] On Twitter, Older confirmed that Taz Molkar was one of several Trymant IV moons indirectly mentioned in "STET!,"[5] one of the author's short stories. The story was released in 2020 as part of the From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back anthology, thus retroactively making "STET!" Taz Molkar's first indirect mention.[9]
The 2023 reference book Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi by Cole Horton includes an in-universe map depicting Trymant IV—and therefore Korbatal—within the original borders of the Occlusion Zone, which also situated it in the Galactic Frontier.[12] However, the 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide, written by Pablo Hidalgo with map contributions by Jason Fry and Christopher Ibbitt, situates the Trymant IV outside of the Occlusion Zone. This article assumes that the latter and more recent source is correct.[13]

Daniel José Older (@djolder) on Twitter (post on January 18, 2024): "Yes!" (screenshot) (In response to: "Hi @djolder was working on Trymant's wiki page and hoped for insight. STET mentions the destruction of several Trymant system moons. Other than Korbatal, is 'several moons' meant to refer the ones in the THRA prequel comic/are they all Trymant's moons, or planetoids instead?") defines the Trymant system celestial objects mentioned in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric" as Trymant IV's moons, which "STET!" specified were destroyed in the Trymant IV disaster dated to 232 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines.
