"My savory mushbloom pie also makes a great Life Day meal for those species who tend to be a bit more herbivorous than your average Wookiee."
―Strono Tuggs, The Life Day Cookbook[2]

Mushbloom pie was a savory pie created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs, who used the fungus known as the mushbloom from the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk.[2] The dish was edible to Wookiees and considered a delicacy in Kashyyykian culture to the species.[1] After the chef published his first cookbook[2] in 34 ABY,[3] he included a recipe for mushbloom pie in his holiday cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, where he mentioned that species that were not as carnivorous as the Wookiees could enjoy the pie as a tasty meal on the holiday of Life Day.[2]

At some point by 35 ABY, the wife of the Wookiee ChewbaccaMallatobuck—prepared mushbloom pies as part of her Life Day meal preparations. Chewbacca considered his wife's cooking better than even Tuggs' legendary dishes, an opinion which the protocol droid C-3PO included in an entry on the Wookiee's tribe in his book The Secrets of the Wookiees.[1]

Behind the scenes

Mushbloom pie was introduced in the 2021 recipe book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, authored by Marc Sumerak and Jenn Fujikawa. The out-of-universe recipe for the mashed-potato topping includes russet potatoes, whole milk, butter, salt, and white pepper. The filling calls for olive oil, butter, carrots, celery stalks, an onion, white mushrooms, cremini mushrooms, garlic cloves, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, oregano, paprika, salt, black pepper, and Parmesan cheese.[2]
