"In the case of the Klatooine paddy frog, it's the color and texture [the Hutts] adore. Fortunately, I was able to reproduce those qualities in a festive dessert that'll please just about anyone—no frogs required!"
―Strono Tuggs, The Life Day Cookbook[1]

Klatooine Crêpes was a festive dessert that consisted of an array of green crêpes stuffed with a red filling. They were created by Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs, who was trying to recreate the qualities of the creature known as the Klatooine paddy frog so that the frog's qualities could be enjoyed by those who had no intention of eating such a creature. At some point after publishing his first cookbook[1] in 34 ABY,[3] Tuggs included a recipe for Klatooine Crêpes in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook. He claimed in the book that the dish would please nearly everybody.[1]

One individual who did fall in love with the dish was an influential Hutt, and so Tuggs was booked to tour Hutt Space in his food freighter. He took the tour as part of a culinary tour of the galaxy that he made[2] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[4] and wrote about in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook,[2] in 35 ABY.[4]

Behind the scenes

Klatooine Crêpes were introduced in the 2021 recipe book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, authored by Marc Sumerak and Jenn Fujikawa with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the filling includes shredded coconut, brown sugar, and coconut milk. The crêpes call for coconut milk, pandan extract, eggs, butter, flour, and salt.[1]

  3. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook establishes that the in-universe book was published at the same time as when the First Order was searching for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
