"By encasin' a whole fish in a thick crust of salt and bakin' it to perfection, you get not only a moist and tender meal but also a showstoppin' presentation that is ideal for any holiday table."
―Strono Tuggs, The Life Day Cookbook[1]

Crait Crusted Cod was a dish consisting of a cod and sliced yellow fruit, both fully encased in white salt from the planet Crait and then baked until the white fish meat was browned. The salt was then shattered, and a green garnish was added. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs created the dish in order to showcase the salt from Crait, which he used in just about every dish he cooked.[1]

At some point after Tuggs published his first cookbook[1] in 34 ABY,[2] the chef included a recipe for Crait Crusted Cod in the main courses section of his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook. He described the dish as moist and tender if baked to perfection and claimed its show-stopping presentation made it ideal for any holiday table.[1]

Behind the scenes

Crait Crusted Cod was created as a recipe for the 2021 Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe uses kosher salt, lightly beaten egg white, water, sliced lemons, cod fillets, extra virgin olive oil, paprika, black pepper, fresh dill, and fresh thyme.[1]
