Force push was a telekinetic ability of the Force that was used in an offensive or defensive manner. This power was employed by both the Jedi and the Sith.[1]
Description
- "A Jedi traditionally uses telekinesis to move inanimate objects, but there are some occasions when one might be forced to use this ability on an enemy combatant. At those times, employing a simple telekinetic push can help neutralize an attacker and clear a path to safety. The stronger the push, however, the more likely it is to cause serious injury. A true Jedi should only use this ability as a defensive tool, not as an offensive weapon."
- ―Luke Skywalker
Darth Vader uses a Force push to throw Chelli Lona Aphra back and remove the Spark Eternal from her body.
Force push was used to repel objects or people, moving them away from the user. It could be used to varying degrees, from simply pressing against or softly moving targets away from the user, to shoving and staggering them, to knocking them backwards or to the ground, to sending them flying through the air,[1] potentially causing serious injury or even death. This was a valuable weapon for the Jedi and a useful tool for fighting in alignment with their code.[3]
At more powerful levels, Force push could manifest as a telekinetic impulse created with the Force, generating a concussive burst of pressurized air akin to an explosive force from the user's body that impacts against the target like a projectile. Depending on the power and skill of the user, stronger applications of this ability could be capable of shattering stone or blasting heavy steel doors.[4] The greater the user's telekinetic aptitude, the larger the pressure differential, and thus the stronger the effect and the heavier the target. With practice, a skilled Force user could increase the range and arc of the blast without lowering the average kinetic energy, creating a blanketing wave instead of a focused pulse. Savage Opress[5] and Darth Vader could do such a thing.[6] It also provided an opening for a groups to knock down a bundle of enemies at the same time like the time on the Battle of Tenoo when the lightsabers are confiscated, The heroes use force push to knock down a dozen of enemies giving them a chance to save the temple.
Kelnacca uses Force push to hurl Torbin and Sol into a wall.
Sometimes two users of this power would slam it into each others' attacks, as when Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader fought on Mustafar and both men tried to push the other at once, resulting in each warrior being thrown back.[7]
