Plot Summary
- "A sad end for such a noble creature. This is not the Jedi way."
"I know. But that Kaijura was taken out of its natural environment. Its attacks were a result of its suffering. Death was a release. And we needed to do what we had to do to save Qui-Gon." - ―Aayla Secura and Mace Windu
On Mina-Rau, Jedi Master Mace Windu and Aayla Secura reach the top of the Combine that Qui-Gon Jinn had fought and lost to Corlis Rath. The two find Qui-Gon in a bad state, poisoned by the same toxin as Master Etzis. They contemplate synthesising an antidote on the ship, but fear that Qui-Gon doesn't have that much time. Qui-Gon manages to mutter Sinsara to the other Jedi, confusing them as to who that could be, they take him back to the ship and stabilize him. Back on the shuttle, Windu administers some Dothrasim to prevent the poison from spreading further, and Secura discovers that Sinsara is a planet in the Anoat sector, not a person. Having already made the lightspeed calculations, the two set course for Sinsara.
Arriving on the planet, they are greeted by a host who claims that Jedi are forbidden ever since Horomeeda and that they should leave. Secura tells him that they have an injured companion and that their customs compel them to help. Inside the host's home, Windu questions if she used a Jedi mind trick, but she luckily guessed that they followed that belief. Uncomfortable to have Jedi on Sinsara, he sits with them, offering them some tea. The Jedi explain that Qui-Gon was poisoned by a fast toxin and violet in colour, which the host confirms as Emubara and can only be cured by an antidote from The Banished who were driven out after the Horomeeda. The host suggests that it is unlikely for The Banished to help them, since they despise Jedi just as much.
Travelling through a forest, the two Jedi suddenly sense a threat, and are suddenly attacked by several members of The Banished. Having a brief fight with the members, the two Jedi decide that trying to defeat all the opposition would take too long, so they surrender. Meeting with the ruler of The Banished, King Gara, they request his help with saving Qui-Gon by giving them the antidote to Emubara, the ruler decides not to have the Jedi killed, but has them help out with an issue of theirs. Gara takes the Jedi to the site, where a kaijura now lives, who terrorizes the people of Sinsara every season. Returning their lightsabers, they task the Jedi with slaying the beast. Windu recognises the creature from Qui-Gon's and Obi-Wan's mission to Burantia where they had a brief interaction with a herd of Kaijura. Executing a plan to kill the beast, Windu lures the creature to chase him, while Secura runs alongside the beast and climbs onto it. Using her lightsaber, she stabs the creature in the head, which kills it. The two feel sad for killing the creature, but they justify the action since the creature was out of its natural environment and suffering for it.
Returning to Coruscant with the antidote and Qui-Gon, they hand it over to Jedi physician Rig Nema who uses the antidote to flush the toxins from his body. However, due to the severe damage done to him, she had to place the Jedi into a medically induced coma, but it is unknown when he will awake from his condition.
